Assistant Professor of Spanish
The Department of Spanish, Italian, and Portuguese at The Pennsylvania State University invites applications for a tenure-track position in Early Modern Peninsular Studies at the rank of Assistant Professor. Given our department's comparative and interdisciplinary orientation, we are particularly interested in candidates who are committed to advancing methodological and theoretical approaches in the field and whose research challenges canonical conceptions of literature. We welcome candidates whose research and teaching complement our strengths in the areas of cultural history, gender, sexuality, corporeality, race, disability studies, and material culture. We also encourage applications from candidates whose research speaks to recent developments in Mediterranean Studies, Hispano-Arabic Studies, and Judeo-Spanish Culture and History. The ideal candidate will pursue creative collaboration with programs and departments at Penn State, including the Committee for Early Modern Studies, The Center for Medieval Studies, Comparative Literature, Women, Gender and Sexuality Studies, History, Visual Studies, and the Global Studies Program. The position requires both undergraduate and graduate teaching and mentoring, and participation in the full range of faculty responsibilities. Native or near-native fluency in both Spanish and English as well as Ph.D. in hand at the time of appointment are required. This position will start in August 2019. Interested candidates must submit an online application at https://psu.jobs, and should include a letter of application detailing research and teaching, a CV, and two writing samples as attachments to the application. Please also arrange to have three letters of recommendation sent to Carissa Milliman (clm312@psu.edu). Review of applications will begin October 15 and will continue until the position is filled.
