DEAN, SY SYMS SCHOOL OF BUSINESS

Yeshiva University is seeking a strategic, innovative, collaborative institutional builder leader to serve as the next Dean of the Sy Syms School of Business. The School of Business was established in 1987 through the support of entrepreneur Sy Syms to add a new dimension in undergraduate education at Yeshiva University. This next Dean will be a skilled leader who will work with faculty, students, staff and administrators to develop new academic programs that increase both undergraduate and graduate enrollment.

Founded in 1886, Yeshiva University has a strong tradition of combining Jewish scholarship with secular academic excellence and achievement in the liberal arts, sciences, medicine, law, business, social work, Jewish studies, education, and psychology. Students choose to study at Yeshiva because of the rich traditions and values that infuse the institution’s mission of transforming students’ lives and preparing them for leadership roles and for professional success.

The Sy Syms School of Business offers an undergraduate program and a comprehensive business curriculum that is complemented by a strong liberal arts program of study. Undergraduates at Yeshiva University undertake a dual curriculum that focuses on Judaic Studies and secular coursework. Grounded in ethics, reflection, and experiential learning, this demanding curriculum equips them for satisfying careers, citizenship, and life. An honors program has expanded considerably over the years. In addition, the Sy Syms School of Business offers several graduate programs that are secular in orientation and offer a contemporary professional curriculum that prepares students for the rigors of the business world and positions them for success, including an EMBA, MS in Accounting and MS in Taxation, and an MS in Finance which will launch in the Fall of 2019. Sy Syms students are highly trained, attractive to employers, and recruited by local, national and international firms. Reporting to the Provost/Vice President for Academic Affairs, the Dean is responsible for developing a strategic vision and overseeing the day-to-day operations of the School, its faculty, department chairs and program directors, staff, and students. He/she must be outcomes driven, with a commitment to meeting enrollment and revenue targets. This Dean must also be a resourceful and imaginative thinker who can build new graduate, undergraduate and non-credit programs and can develop pathways from undergraduate curriculum to graduate programs. He/she will foster a student-friendly and service-oriented culture; ensure that there are effective shared governance processes and systems in place; and will support faculty research and the generation of external grants. The Dean will be involved with raising philanthropic dollars for the School, and will be instrumental in nurturing existing and new relationships with alumni, donors, and industry contacts so that the School’s reach is extended. The Dean will also work with colleagues at Yeshiva University’s other schools and colleges to foster strategic collaborations for programs and support services, and to extend the University’s impact and reputation. The Dean must be committed to career placement for students, enhancing the School’s visibility, and ensuring that it exceeds accreditor expectations.

Yeshiva University has retained Isaacson, Miller, a national executive search firm, to assist in the recruitment of the Dean of the Sy Syms School of Business. Nominations and applications, including – as individual attachments – a cover letter, a CV, and a list of references, should be submitted online: www.imsearch.com/6606
