Centenary College of Louisiana invites applications for a tenure-track position at the Assistant Professor level in the Art & Visual Culture Department to begin August 2019. Applications will be accepted until the position is filled.
We are seeking a dynamic artist/scholar/educator who is comfortable with merging a traditional studio approach to skill development with contemporary practice, criticality, theory, and analysis, aiming to graduate rigorously educated art professionals ready to contribute meaningfully to cultural dialogue. Ideal candidates will be well versed in an embedded, contextual practice that permeates the boundaries between studio production and art criticism and theory, removing the artificial barrier between making and thinking. Strong teaching and mentoring skills, commitment to service, and dedication to developing and sustaining a personal creative practice are desired. We are particularly interested in individuals open to involving students in research/studio projects and those willing to engage the local arts community. Teaching responsibilities will include both introductory and advanced studio art courses. M.F.A. or Ph.D. required.
Applicants should demonstrate a commitment to excellence in teaching, with the recognition that research/creative pursuits and openness to pedagogical innovation are integral components of an undergraduate liberal arts education.
Centenary College of Louisiana is a selective, residential, national liberal arts college affiliated with the United Methodist Church.
