The Department of English and Comparative Literature at San Diego State University, the flagship campus of the largest and most diverse public university system in the U.S., seeks applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor specializing in Black Literary/Cultural Studies. We seek applicants with research and teaching interests in American, African, Afro-Latinx, transatlantic, or black diasporic materials. We welcome but do not require candidates in research areas that complement existing areas of strength on our campus, including environmental humanities, popular cultures, media studies, digital humanities, performance studies, and/or gender and sexuality studies. Historical period open. The successful candidate will contribute to the curriculum at both the undergraduate and graduate levels.

Candidates must hold a Ph.D. in English or an equivalent field and demonstrate potential for excellence as a scholar-teacher, including successful teaching experience, currency within the candidate's field, and/or publication of scholarly research. The normal teaching load is 3/3, including undergraduate courses as well as literature seminars serving our large and distinguished MA and MFA programs.
