The Department of English at Rice University, located in Houston, Texas, invites applications to a tenure track position as Assistant Professor of American Ethnic Literatures and Cultures. We seek outstanding applicants who specialize in any one subfield or with expertise across the subfields of American Ethnic Literatures and Cultures and who will contribute to diversity and equal opportunity in higher education through their research and teaching.  The department is particularly interested in scholars with a demonstrated interest in bringing to their research and undergraduate teaching the critical perspective that comes from the experiences of groups historically underrepresented in higher education. Standard teaching load is 2-2. 

Requirements: Ph.D. in hand as of June 2019 and evidence of effective writing and teaching. Starting date: July 1, 2019. The application deadline is October 15, 2018. Materials to be submitted include cover letter, c.v., dissertation abstract or abstract of current research project, and writing sample (max. 25 pages). Three letters of recommendation are required. Initial interviews will be conducted by Skype in December.
