The Department of English invites applications for a
tenure-track Assistant Professor position in young adult literature
and English education beginning September 16, 2019. Ph.D. in
English or a related field, or Ed.D. with an emphasis in English
education, is required by September 1, 2019. Also required are a
demonstrated currency in the field of young adult literature and
English education, and potential for strong scholarship and
publication in young adult literature, pedagogy, and related
fields; demonstrated commitment to excellence in undergraduate
teaching; and an ability to cultivate learning environments that
are equitable and inclusive of students with diverse social
identities and backgrounds. Preferred qualifications are: recent
middle or high school teaching experience and/or professional
development work in the schools; demonstrable secondary areas of
expertise such as children's literature, literature and writing
pedagogies, writing or film studies for prospective middle and/or
high school teachers; and an interest in serving on WWU's
Children's/Young Adult's Literature Conference Advisory
Board.
The successful candidate will have the departmental standard 2-2-2
quarter teaching assignment, including specialty courses at the
undergraduate and M.A. levels, general education courses, and other
courses depending on the candidate's interests and departmental
