The Department of Languages, Literatures and Cultures invites applications for a tenure track position in Spanish at the rank of Assistant Professor I beginning in September 2019.  Ph.D. and undergraduate teaching experience and native or near-native fluency in Spanish and English are required. The area of specialization sought is U.S Latinx with experience in community outreach including the creation of internships. Spanish for the Professions desirable. The duties of the Assistant Professor of Spanish will include teaching three lower level language courses and three specialized courses such as:

 

SPA *** U.S. Latinx Culture in the Workplace

SPA *** U.S. Latinx Film and Media

SPA *** The U.S. Latinx Community: From Local to Global.

Essential pedagogical commitments include: teaching language courses at all levels, program development and innovation, and engaging diverse student populations. Technology-assisted instruction, heritage speaker teaching, and service learning experience are highly desirable.

 

The successful candidate is expected to maintain excellence in undergraduate student-centered teaching, scholarly activity, and departmental and institutional service.  Responsibilities include: advising of students; participation and leadership in department activities; mentoring of adjunct faculty; promotion of foreign language study and internship and service learning opportunities; program development.
