The Departments of French, Germanic, and Italian and the Scandinavian Section in the UCLA Division of Humanities are seeking to hire two (2) new faculty at the Assistant Professor level as part of an initiative to establish a new Department of European Languages and Transcultural Studies (ELTS). The ideal candidates will have expertise in transnational European contexts in any time period from the Middle Ages to today, have fluency in at least one of the above language traditions, while also being able to contribute in meaningful ways to a core curriculum. We are especially interested in applicants who work in literary studies, visual culture, film and media studies, digital / environmental / medical / urban humanities, and on critical thought and issues related to translation, diaspora and race, ethnic and religious minorities, migratory movements, and gender/sexuality. Applicants must have completed the Ph.D. by the time of the appointment (July 1, 2019).
