The Helen Zell Writers Program in the Department of English at the University of Michigan invites applications for a fiction writer to join the MFA faculty at the level of a tenure-track Assistant Professor. We are looking for a colleague of distinction with a strong record of publication (a minimum of one book published or in press) and demonstrated promise of excellence in teaching. As a member of our department, the candidate will teach graduate and undergraduate fiction workshops and other courses reflecting his/her interests and departmental needs. This is a university-year appointment with an expected start date of September 1st, 2019. Applicants should submit a cover letter, CV, writing sample (no more than 25 pages), and evidence of teaching excellence by October 1st. The English Department is committed to the core values of diversity, equity, and inclusion, and we encourage all applicants to comment, either in the cover letter or in a separate statement on how their research, teaching, and/or service experience will enhance our efforts to support these values and the needs of an increasingly diverse student population. The University of Michigan is an equal opportunity/affirmative action employer and is supportive of the needs of dual career couples. Women and minority candidates are encouraged to apply. All applications will be acknowledged. Further information about the Department of English Language and Literature can be found on our website at lsa.umich.edu/english.
