Position Announcement: The Department of Human Development and
Family Studies at Texas Tech University seeks applicants for a
tenure track Assistant Professor position to begin September 1,
2019 with research interests and expertise in adolescence and/or
emerging adulthood in areas related to neuroscience, risk, poverty
and/or substance abuse. We encourage applications from candidates
who study health disparities, underserved populations, racial and
ethnic minority groups, family stress/trauma, intervention, and
public policy initiatives. Qualifications: In line with TTUs
strategic priorities, applicants are required to have a Ph.D. in
human development, family studies or a related discipline such as,
psychology, sociology, or education. A demonstrated and ongoing
commitment to serving diverse student populations. Strong
candidates also will demonstrate past success and/or potential for
future success in meeting the responsibilities of the position.
These include: conducting research and obtaining external funding;
teaching and mentoring undergraduate, masters, and doctoral degree
students; providing service to the department, the university and
the discipline; and outreach to and engagement with the community.
About the Department and University: The Department of Human
Development and Family Studies is an interdisciplinary research
department with strong graduate and undergraduate programs focused
on individual development across the life course, family structure,
and family dynamics. The Department is a unit of the College of
Human Sciences, and is one of the largest units on the Texas Tech
campus. It serves approximately 1,100 undergraduate and graduate
students, and offers masters and doctoral degrees. Texas Tech
University hosts several institutes, centers, and programs that may
enhance candidates research productivity, including Early Head
Start, East Lubbock Promise Neighborhood, Center for the Study of
Addiction and Recovery, the Institute for Measurement, Methodology,
Analysis & Policy, and the Burkhart Center for Autism Education
and Research. The HDFS department is home to three Centers
including the Child Development Research Center (http://www.depts.ttu.edu/hs/cdrc/
), the Early Head Start Center (http://www.depts.ttu.edu/hs/hdfs/earlyheadstart/
), and the Center for Adolescent Resiliency (https://www.depts.ttu.edu/hs/car/.
In addition, we also have an Institute for Developmental Science
with several initiatives related to risk prevention and
intervention in early childhood, risk and resilience in adolescence
and socioeconomic, racial and ethnic disparities. The Iva Lea
Barton Research Suite (http://today.ttu.edu/2010/11/college-of-human-sciences-dedicates-research-suite/
) provides state of the art research facilities. In addition, Texas
Tech University houses the Center for Biotechnology and Genomics
http://www.depts.ttu.edu/biotechnologyandgenomics/
which offers instrumentation, support, and training in various
aspects of modern biotechnology, including nextgen sequencing,
bioinformatics, and functional genomics as well as the Texas Tech

Texas Tech is one of the states major universities consisting of 10
colleges, the Graduate School, and the School of Law and is
