The Department of English at Skidmore College invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor in transatlantic Romanticism and British literatures of the long 18th century. We are particularly interested in candidates who can add to the diversity and excellence of our academic community through their research, teaching, and service. The successful candidate should be able to teach a range of courses, including introductory and capstone classes and theme-based seminars in addition to courses in the field of specialization. We are especially interested in candidates with expertise in Africana and global studies.

Normal teaching load is five courses per year, including one writing-intensive course each semester and regular participation in Skidmore’s First Year Experience program. All professors are expected to participate fully in the life of the college, including advising, faculty governance, and department activities. Applicants must demonstrate excellence in teaching and scholarship, as well as a strong commitment to undergraduate education at a liberal arts college. Ph.D. is required at the time of employment.
