The mission of Purdue's Center for Intercultural Learning, Mentorship, Assessment and Research (CILMAR) is to promote and facilitate intercultural learning at Purdue and beyond. The Senior Intercultural Learning Specialist will be a seasoned interculturalist with both a solid theoretical understanding of intercultural communication and experience applying theory and best practices to the design and implementation of experiential and reflective learning interventions in a variety of contexts, both in and out of the classroom. The Senior Intercultural Learning Specialist will work closely with colleges and student services units across Purdue's campus to embed intercultural learning throughout the curriculum as well as the co-curricular life of the study body. In addition, as are all CILMAR staff, this position will be involved in mentoring others in the development of intercultural competence, creating and presenting intercultural interventions, working with intercultural assessments, and disseminating information about CILMAR's work in and beyond Purdue.

  Qualifications   Required:
  • PhD, EdD, JD or other terminal degree in International Education, Curriculum and Instruction, Intercultural Communication, Multicultural Education, Global Studies, Cultural Studies, Language or Linguistics, Anthropology, Higher Ed Leadership/Administration or another relevant discipline.
  • ABD in doctoral program considered if dissertation will be complete by December, 2018.
  • One or more years of experience in higher education including some classroom teaching as well as some intercultural, multicultural, international education and/or study abroad programming.
  • Knowledge of theory, research, and assessment specifically relating to intercultural, multicultural, and global learning.
  • Knowledge of best practices and innovations in experiential and active learning and engagement/service learning.
  • Knowledge of best practices and innovations in curriculum design and in using teaching and learning technologies.
  • Ability to effective communicate in consultations with faculty and staff.
  • Demonstrable organizational skills in developing and managing co-curricular activities.
Preferred:

  • Experience mentoring students, conducting training programs for faculty/staff in a university setting, assessing learning outcomes, conducting needs analyses, and designing curriculum.
  • Skills in applied research or program evaluation including qualitative and quantitative research methods.
  • Certification/qualification in a least one intercultural instrument such as the IDI, BEVI, IES, etc.
