DEAN OF THE MARCELLA NIEHOFF SCHOOL OF NURSING
Chicago, IL

Loyola University Chicago (Loyola) invites nominations and applications for an entrepreneurial and collaborative Dean of the Marcella Niehoff School of Nursing who can take a strong and vibrant school to greater heights. Founded in 1870 as Saint Ignatius College by the Society of Jesus, Loyola is one of the largest Jesuit Catholic universities in the country and the only one in Chicago. In the last decade or more, Loyola has experienced tremendous growth in virtually every dimension, including undergraduate enrollments, student success, research activity, physical footprint, and academic programs. Motivated by its Jesuit commitment to social justice and transformative education, and guided by its 2020 strategic plan, Loyola has earned recognition on the national higher education landscape for its mission-centered undergraduate experience, its rising research profile, and its engagement with the Chicago community.

The Marcella Niehoff School of Nursing (MNSON), part of Loyola’s Health Sciences Division, prepares nurses, dietitians, nutritionists, fitness professionals, and healthcare administrators through its undergraduate, master’s, doctoral, and certificate programs offered across three of the university’s four campuses and online. Graduates of each of these programs are widely sought after in the greater Chicago area and beyond as they bring a special approach to their respective professions. They are not only expert in their chosen profession but also embody the spirit of Jesuit education, cura personalis (or care of the whole person), in all they do. With its deeply felt and ubiquitously lived mission, talented and dedicated faculty and staff, committed and excellent students, and ambition to develop innovative approaches to inter-professional delivery of care and research, the MNSON provides a tremendous platform for a dean who can help elevate an already thriving school of nursing and impact the lives of many students and patients.

The Loyola Health Sciences Division campus in Maywood, Illinois (west of Chicago) connects the MNSON directly to the Stritch School of Medicine. They share an information commons and simulation labs, among other resources. The two schools sit adjacent to Loyola University Medical Center, owned and operated by Trinity Health. This provides a distinct opportunity for a collaborative dean to leverage partnerships across the university and with clinical partners to reimagine the possibilities for inter-professional and inter-disciplinary research, teaching, and service.

Loyola University Chicago has retained Isaacson, Miller, a national executive search firm, to assist in this search. The successful applicant must be a registered nurse (RN), hold a graduate degree in nursing and a doctorate degree (a PhD in nursing strongly preferred), and offer concrete evidence of an understanding of and commitment to Loyola’s Jesuit Catholic mission and ideals. The next dean must demonstrate scholarly distinction appropriate for a tenured appointment as a full professor at Loyola University Chicago. Significant experience in nursing leadership, education, practice, and research or scholarship is expected. Screening of complete applications will begin immediately and continue until the completion of the search process/until the position is filled. For more details, including the full position profile and to submit inquiries, nominations, referrals, and applications, please see the Isaacson, Miller website for the search: www.imsearch.com/6514. Electronic submission of materials is required.
