ASSOCIATE VICE PRESIDENT, DEVELOPMENT, MONROE PARK CAMPUS
VIRGINIA COMMONWEALTH UNIVERSITY
Richmond, Virginia
The Aspen Leadership Group is proud to partner with Virginia
Commonwealth University (VCU) in the search for an Associate Vice
President, Development, Monroe Park Campus.
The Associate Vice President, Development, Monroe Park Campus
Development will implement an integrated philanthropic model to
support the overall “one university” mission of VCU and in
conjunction with senior leadership, develop opportunities for
philanthropy across all constituencies on the Monroe Park Campus
and affiliated sites. The AVP will work closely with affiliated
university foundations to build volunteer expertise and to
cultivate support for the academic mission of VCU. The successful
candidate will serve on the leadership cabinet of the Vice
President for Development and Alumni Relations and as chief counsel
in complex gift strategies, as the campus campaign director, and as
the chief gift strategist working with senior leadership to ensure
best practices are implemented. The AVP will set metrics for annual
achievements, assure a common set of expectations, and mentor
decentralized development and alumni staff. In addition, the
successful candidate will manage a small portfolio of Principal
Gift prospects.
Virginia Commonwealth University, a major, urban public research
university, was designated in 2013 by U.S. News & World
Report as one the nation’s “up and coming universities,
recognizing its promising and innovative changes in academics,
faculty, student life and research.” VCU ranks among the top 50
public research universities in the country according to the Center
of Measuring University Performance, especially in the areas of
faculty awards, doctorates granted, and the number of post-doctoral
fellows.
VCU enrolls more than 31,000 students in 226 degree and certificate
programs in the sciences, arts, and humanities across its
campuses—the downtown Monroe Park and MCV Campuses, and campuses in
Fairfax, Virginia, for the schools of Medicine and Pharmacy, and
Doha, Qatar, for the School of the Arts. Hailed for its nationally
ranked programs in the arts, social work, and health sciences, VCU
is a cutting-edge teaching and research university with an
exceptional commitment to excellence, diversity, innovation, and
outreach. VCU secured $271 million in sponsored research in
FY16.
The Associate Vice President, Development, Monroe Park Campus is a
new position reporting directly to the Vice President. This role is
envisioned as a lead campaign manager on campus, directly managing
relationships with deans, center directors, and lead development
officers. The AVP will assist in developing metrics and goals for
the lead development officers, in partnerships with their unit
supervisors. Additionally, this position will partner with the
deans and center directors to recruit, develop, and build strong
fundraising teams. As the University is in the final two years of
its comprehensive campaign, this individual will have an exciting
opportunity to help strategize and plan VCU’s next campaign. The
AVP will also be a point person for the campus-based
institutionally related foundations and will be relied on for
campaign reporting and forecasting.
An advanced degree or training and work experience at a level that
equates to an advanced degree is required for this position as is a
minimum of 15 years of experience in increasingly more responsible
roles in Development and Advancement departments within large,
complex university settings. All applications must be accompanied
by a cover letter and résumé.
Virginia Commonwealth University is an equal
opportunity/affirmative action employer. Women, minorities, and
persons with disabilities are encouraged to apply.
