This position reports to the Dean of Business, Technology and Public Service.

APPOINTMENT PERIOD:

Full-time, annually renewable, 12-month appointment.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Chair leads the further development of the Criminal Justice Program in alignment with the College’s overall mission. He/She will supervise all aspects of the program.  The Chair may also assume oversight for the Rhodes State Center for Critical Incidents Response and Prevention.  Specific duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

SPECIFIC DUTIES:

  1. Develop and implement marketing and recruiting initiatives in collaboration with Division Dean and appropriate staff;
  2. Maintain program-specific accreditations;
  3. Promotes a culture of inclusiveness and support for diverse faculty and students;
  4. Responsible for assessment of student learning;
  5. Responsible for development/redevelopment of relevant program coursework;
  6. Instruct program courses per approved academic load requirements;
  7. Manage and supervise all Rhodes State College police academies;
  8. Research and develop new majors, certificates, and other initiatives;
  9. Perform comprehensive curriculum and program review;
  10. Evaluate full-time and part-time faculty candidates as faculty members and recommend to Division Dean;
  11. Conduct faculty performance assessments and develop improvement plans for all program faculty members;
  12. Provide daily supervision to program faculty;
  13. Prepare, monitor and manage program budget;
  14. Review and submit program catalog changes to Division Dean;
  15. Prepare program class schedules and submit to Division Dean;
  16. Maintain/assess program lab/equipment and recommend replacement/new acquisition to Division Dean;
  17. Assist Division Dean and Grants Officer with preparation and submission of grants to support program mission;
  18. Manage program instructor course assignment and maintain related database;
  19. Supervise and monitor program attendance tracking and text book/instructional supply acquisition;
  20. Advise students academically and resolve student issues utilizing college processes and procedures. Refer issues to Division Dean as   needed;
  21. Review/approve student requests for academic credit through experience, proficiency and non-academic learning and forward to Division Dean;
  22. Review/approve graduation course substitutions and forward to Division Dean;
  23. Plan and conduct program advisory committee meetings;
  24. Maintain personal professional development and foster development of full time/adjunct program faculty;
  25. Support distance education and expand student access to program coursework;
  26. Participate in college, community and professional service that support the program and college missions;
  27. Other duties as assigned.

MAJOR WORK QUALIFICATIONS:

Master’s Degree in Criminal Justice or a related field required.  Must have a minimum of three (3) years of relevant criminal justice experience as well as a minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible administrative/supervisory experience.  Experience in both college teaching and field experience preferred.  Preferences will be given for Ohio Police Officer Training Academy (OPOTA) Instructor Certification in the majority of Teaching Units offered at the College, and the ability to obtain OPOTA Police Academy Commander certification within eighteen (18) months.  Applicant must have ability to communicate verbally and in writing.  Familiarity with administrative and instructional software desired.  Must value and appreciate working in a shared governance environment and have an appreciation for and understanding of the two-year college mission.

SALARY:                                              

Commensurate with academic preparation and experience.
