Assistant Director

 

The 1199SEIU Training & Employment Funds provide education and job training programs for over 40,000 unionized workers represented by 1199SEIU United Healthcare Workers East.  Our mission is to develop high quality training, placement and labor-management initiatives.  We also aim to develop the ability of union and management to problem-solve difficult issues and to create innovative healthcare solutions.

 If you’re ready for the brightest career future, join us in this excellent opportunity to showcase your talents.  We are currently seeking an experienced Assistant Director for our Education department. 

Responsibilities

  • Manage the all the programs and services at the Bronx, Brooklyn, Long Island, Staten Island, White Plains and Albany sites
  • Work with Site Managers, Program Managers, and Assistant Directors to direct, manage, and support the work for the admissions, counseling, tuition reimbursement, Pre-College, Workplace Skills, and other programs areas 
  • Oversee administrative work related to programs to ensure that reporting is timely and accurate; establish and supervise regular office hours and tuition intakes at each site; issue vouchers in site programs and provide reports on all site activities
  • Identify and establish relationships with potential educational providers for a range of programs; partner with internal staff to evaluate providers and appropriateness of programs
  • Establish uniform recruiting procedures for education programs and hold regular all-site staff meetings; develop recruiting and marketing calendar to include all sites to ensure appropriate coverage
  • Develop, manage and control budget for site programs, including seeking additional external funds
  • Supervise staff in accordance with established guidelines and procedures; establish a collaborative team environment, prepare performance evaluations, identify areas for development, create improvement plans, coach and counsel as appropriate
  • Visit various work sites to conduct orientation, recruitment, marketing activities and monitor the progress of student programs; establish non-credit, prep classes and further develop them as needed
  • Oversee and manage relationships with the 1199SEIU union and employers for all education programs; establish uniform protocols for developing and integrating Fund, Union, and Employer needs
  • Partner with employers to understand shortage areas and priorities for program development
  • Perform additional duties and projects as assigned by management
  • Must meet performance standards including attendance and punctuality

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Adult Education, Management, Business Administration or equivalent years of experience required; Master’s Degree preferred
  • Minimum six (6) years experience in managing adult education or training programs; to include minimum four (4) years supervisory experience
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including some evenings and weekends; travel to various locations in New York Metropolitan area
  • Ability to analyze data, manage budgets and grant funding
  • Strong background in staff development, training, and change management
  • Excellent writing, interpersonal, presentation and communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Ability to prioritize, meet deadlines, plan and coordinate work in a time sensitive environment
  • Exceptional organizational, project and time management skills
