GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

The University of Guam is looking for an individual who is interested in new challenges and opportunities for professional and personal growth.  This position calls for someone who is self-motivated and adaptable, intelligent, possesses a global vision and who is interested in working in a dynamic, multi-cultural institution.

UNIT DESCRIPTION:

History is a program within the Division of Humanities, which also includes Anthropology, Modern Languages, Philosophy, and Chamorro Studies.

CHARACTER OF DUTIES:

The successful candidate is expected to: (1) teach courses in U.S. history; (2) teach survey courses in World History; (3) teach twelve (12) contact hours per semester (faculty may request for the Dean’s approval of a .25 load allocation for research, instructional innovation, or service); (4) maintain a continuous record of scholarly activity; (5) perform university and community service; (6) advise students; and (7) maintain standards of collegiality.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum: Earned Ph.D. in U.S. History or closely related discipline from a U.S. regionally accredited institution or foreign equivalent. Degree must be in hand by the expected start date of January 22, 2019. Must be willing to teach online.

Preferred: (1) Subfield in regionally relevant area such as Spanish Empire, Japanese Imperialism, or Philippine History; (2) Ability to teach and develop courses in American foreign policy, colonialism, and imperialism; (3) Ability to teach and develop courses in World History; (4) Ability to teach courses in historiography and research methods; (5) Interest in expanding and/or developing a regionally-oriented research agenda; and (6) Experience working with online learning programs.
