Park University invited nominations and applications for the position of Dean of the College of Management.

THE UNIVERSITY: Park University is a private, independent, nonprofit masters-level institution serving more than 11,000 students nationally through its flagship campus, 41 campus centers across the country and via its robust online program. Park provides innovative, accessible and flexible education by utilizing not only traditional in-person delivery, but also online or distance learning methods and blended learning alternatives.

Honoring its founding mission to provide academic access to all qualified learners, the University continues to serve a highly diverse student population with a 46 percent ethnic representation and enrolls 336 international students from 65 countries. The flagship campus in Parkville, Mo., sits atop rolling hills overlooking the Missouri River and presents an imposing community feature with its beautiful and historic buildings. The campus also includes a unique academic underground space created from the excavation of native limestone. The underground campus houses classrooms, faculty and staff offices, a boardroom and Park’s distance learning operations center. The University also manages and oversees the successful Parkville Commercial Underground, an innovative commercial space that provides 385,000 square feet of economical and secure space for small businesses and wholesalers in the Kansas City area.

The Parkville Campus serves as the University’s system-wide administrative center and is home for the University’s daytime students who participate in traditional collegiate academic and athletic activities. The men’s volleyball team were crowned NAIA national champions in 2017. Women’s volleyball and men’s basketball also made it to the NAIA tournaments in 2017. The University has retained its status as a “Champions of Character” institution for numerous years.

THE DEAN: Reporting to the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs, the Dean is the chief administrative, fiscal, and academic officer of the College. The Dean is also responsible for implementing the College’s policies and procedures in concert with the University’s policies, and serves on the Provost’s Deans Council. The Dean has the responsibility for the strategic, programmatic, financial, fundraising, and management operations that support the mission of the College of Management and its role within the University.

SKILLS & EXPERIENCE: The University seeks an innovative, dynamic, and visionary leader for the College of Business. The candidate must have strong academic leadership experience, a commitment to excellence, and a willingness to represent the College to internal and external constituencies.

  • Ph.D. or D.B.A. degree in one of the core disciplines housed in the College, and a record of teaching and scholarship appropriate to the rank of professor;
  • Experience in ACBSP accreditation;
  • Experience working with advisory boards and community organizations;
  • Preferred five years of demonstrated administrative experience in higher education (as dean, associate dean, program director, or equivalent);
  • Experience with multiple learning platforms, including face-to-face, online, and hybrid modalities;
  • Understanding of the emerging educational needs of stakeholders in the business sector;
  • Experience in data-informed decision-making to guide program development, implementation, evaluation, and quality improvement;
  • Experience in building external relationships and fundraising;
  • Experience in the supervision, evaluation, and development of employees;
  • Leadership skills rooted in integrity and transparency that embody shared governance and effective decision-making;
  • Excellent communication skills necessary to promote positive collaboration with multiple disciplines within the College and across the University; and
  • Successful experience in budgeting and acquisition of resources, preferably experience in responsibility- centered budgeting.
