Bay de Noc Community College is a student-focused, multi-campus
institution serving the higher education needs of the south central
Upper Peninsula of Michigan. The College is an AQIP institution
committed to continuous quality improvement. Bay College
takes pride in providing a quality education to transfer and
occupational students at two campuses, online, and at other course
delivery sites.
This position serves as a full-time instructor for teaching
communication courses at Bay College for the Escanaba Campus.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Master's degree in communications
- College-level experience teaching communications courses
- Literate in information technology
Preferred Qualifications:
- Online teaching experience
- Evidence of engaged and thoughtful pedagogical practice
- Experience teaching in a community college setting
- PhD in Communications
Essential duties and responsibilities:
- Teach Interpersonal Communications and other communications
courses
- Responsible for student learning:
a) Develop course syllabus
specifically stating the learning outcomes expected of
students
b) Be committed to student
retention and success
c) Utilize universal design to
build courses that recognize and respond to different student
learning needs
d) Develop and use
supplementary learning materials and resources
e) Assess student
progress
f) Use best practices in the
teaching and learning process
g) Promote inclusion and
diversity through content and pedagogy
h) Advise students on academic
and vocational curricula, and on other career issues
i) Maintain regularly
scheduled office hours
j) Create a classroom
environment conducive to critical thinking, critical reading, and
critical communication skills
- Provide leadership and advocate for continuous improvement in
instruction in oral communications in the College's
curriculum.
- Develop pedagogy and curriculum using both classroom and
web-based delivery methods.
- Collaborate with other teaching faculty, staff, and
administration to ensure that all students receive instruction that
promotes learning and growth.
- Be active in division and college activities, including student
advising, placement, and registration activities.
- Keep abreast of developments in the field by reading current
literature, working with colleagues, participating in conferences,
and doing other professional development activities.
- Serve on academic or administrative committees that deal with
continuous improvement, institutional policies, departmental
matters and academic issues.
This position would begin teaching for the Fall 2018 semester,
which begins on August 27, 2018.
