Position Overview:

The Department of Community and Environmental Health, housed in the College of Health Sciences at Boise State University, invites applications for a full-time, tenured/tenure-track Associate Professor in the area of public health who will also serve as the Graduate Program Coordinator for the department.

S/he will join a thriving department with faculty representing public health, environmental and occupational health and safety, health information and informatics, health promotion and policy, and health sciences. The selected candidate will have an active research/scholarship agenda and enjoy teaching and engaging with community partners. Teaching and mentoring students are vital functions of all faculty in Community and Environmental Health.

In addition to serving as part of the faculty, the candidate will lead the development of new and relevant graduate programs and work closely with the Graduate School and other Boise State offices. Responsibilities of this position will be developing and monitoring graduate programs; assessing student learning outcomes, curriculum, and strategic planning; coordinating coverage of graduate courses; mentoring faculty and students in teaching and scholarship; assisting with accreditation activities; and other department related management and service activities.

The ideal candidate for this position is expected to: a) have a doctoral degree in public health or closely related degree with a public health emphasis; b) possess a record of extramural funding and scientific/scholarly achievements appropriate for a tenure track or tenured associate rank; c) have experience teaching and mentoring undergraduate and graduate students; d) have an active interest and skills in working collaboratively within a dynamic environment; e) have a commitment to service at the institutional and community levels; and f) have a demonstrated commitment to inclusion and diversity. This is a full-time (1.0 FTE), 9-month position, with workload adjustment and additional compensation for the Graduate Program Coordinator appointment.

Minimum qualifications include:

  • An earned doctorate in Public Health, or closely-related degree
  • Demonstrated record of curriculum or course development
  • Demonstrated history of effective university teaching and research resulting in extramural funding and peer-reviewed publication
  • Experience with assessment of course and program outcomes
  • Experience teaching at both the undergraduate and graduate levels
  • Experience mentoring student research at both the undergraduate and graduate levels

The preferred candidate will have:

  • Experience coordinating a graduate program.

Salary and benefits:

Salary shall be commensurate with experience. An additional stipend will be provided for directing the graduate programs.
