We have an opening for Instructor (Sociology) at our Chattanooga State campus! The role will be responsible for the following:

The College is seeking a full-time faculty to teach in the discipline of Sociology and in other areas such as Race/ Ethnicity, Marriage & Family, or Gender. Willingness to teaching evenings classes, at satellite campuses, and/or high schools will be a plus.

Position Requirements:

-Perform duties related to instruction; course and curriculum development; professional growth; service to students; and service to the college and community.

-Instructs students in the discipline of Sociology and in other related areas such as Race/Ethnicity, Marriage & Family, or gender. Creates challenging, stimulating, supportive, and inclusive learning environments.

-Plans and organizes course content, syllabi, and delivery. Collaborates in development of courses and curriculum.

-Demonstrates creativity and innovation in pedagogy as well as active commitment to the profession and field of Sociology.

-Supports students by holding office hours, academic advising, and collaborating with college completion specialists.

-Serves the college and community by serving on departmental committees, attending required events, and supporting college initiatives and programs.

-Performs professional duties as assigned by Department Head or Dean.

 

Required Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Sociology or Master’s degree with at least 18 semester graduate hours in Sociology from a regionally accredited institution.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. in Sociology or Doctorate degree with at least 18 semester graduate hours in Sociology
  • Prefer emphasis on Race/Ethnicity, Marriage & Family, or Gender
  • Prefer previous community college teaching experience in on-ground, hybrid, and online modalities
