The Department of Advertising and Public Relations in the College
of Communication and Information Sciences at The University of
Alabama is seeking an outstanding individual to fill a tenure-track
assistant professor position in our nationally-recognized
department.
The ideal candidate will have expertise in conducting market research and using media and audience analytics, and the ability to teach classes in those areas. Preferred candidates will have experience using Google AdWords and Analytics, R and Python. Preferred candidates will also have experience in real-time advertising, social media analytics and syndicated media research. The ideal candidate would have an understanding of integrating descriptive, predictive and prescriptive analytics to make strategic decisions.
Applicants must demonstrate strong potential to establish and maintain a scholarly research program. Because our departmental mission is to “shape the future of global public relations and advertising,” we welcome diverse research perspectives and leadership-focused thinking. Once hired, this faculty member will be expected to establish an international reputation as a communication scholar. This faculty member would also contribute to a growing initiative to increase the department's external funding to support research efforts.
Once hired, this faculty member will be expected to teach research and analytics classes in the department's undergraduate and graduate curriculum, as well as the college-wide doctoral program. This faculty member will also have opportunities to teach other classes in advertising or public relations, depending on their area of expertise.
UA is a student-centered research university. Thus, it is preferred that candidates have prior teaching experience and are able to successfully engage students in the classroom. Applicants must also display an ability to be an active and involved member of a highly-collaborative faculty team.
Preferred candidates would have an earned doctorate or other terminal degree in mass communication or related discipline prior to the start date; however, candidates that are ABD prior to start date would be considered. Salary is open and based on qualifications. The position is on the Tuscaloosa, AL, campus.
