NYU Tandon School of Engineering invites nominations and applications for an Industry Professor to hold the IDC Design and Construction Chair in the Department of Civil & Urban Engineering. NYU is one of the top private universities in the United States, and the Tandon School of Engineering has the distinct history of having been known previously as Brooklyn Poly and the NYU Polytechnic School of Engineering. The position is made possible by an endowment provided by the IDC Foundation, which was established by the Institute of Design and Construction in Brooklyn, New York. The position is not tenured/tenure track and will involve teaching, research administration, and service.

The IDC Chair is expected to lead NYU’s efforts to establish the IDC Foundation Initiative for Construction Innovation (ICI). ICI is envisioned as an industry-supported center that conducts impactful, world-class research, educational, and outreach activities, guided by the active involvement of leaders from the Architecture, Engineering, and Construction (AEC) community.

Qualifications

The IDC Chair will be an experienced, dynamic, individual who possesses the vision and leadership abilities to create a sustainable go-to center for creative solutions to modern AEC challenges. The ideal candidate will combine:

(1) extensive experience in successfully managing large infrastructure or construction programs,

(2) a strong academic background in AEC,

(3) the credibility to attract research funding from both governmental and private sources, and

(4) a history of proven interactions at the highest possible level with government officials, heads of public authorities and large construction and consulting companies.

A PhD in Civil Engineering or a related discipline and prior teaching experience are highly desirable. Candidates must have a clear vision for advancing ICI’s research mission through the development of a long-term research agenda that opens new avenues of funded research while complementing and enhancing existing resources within NYU.

Application Instructions

Applicants should submit a cover letter, a current CV, and the names and contact information of three references. All application materials should be submitted electronically.
