The Curriculum Studies Program, housed in the School of Teaching, Learning & Educational Sciences (STLES) in the College of Education, Health & Aviation at Oklahoma State University, is seeking an outstanding scholar and a leading professional to assume the role of Assistant Professor, tenure track, with specialization in Curriculum Studies.

This position will be located on the scenic main campus in Stillwater, Oklahoma. Stillwater is a remarkable place to live, offering a range of large city amenities but maintaining the charm of a smaller community.  Because it is situated between Oklahoma City and Tulsa, a short drive provides residents opportunities for dining, cultural, and professional sporting events. Stillwater offers affordable housing and excellent schools, and has been ranked as one of America’s safest cities. This position is primarily assigned to the OSU-Stillwater, with some OSU-Tulsa teaching responsibilities.

The Curriculum Studies program prepares K-20 curriculum leaders, professors of education, curriculum designers and evaluators, and leaders in various educational settings. Embracing creative theory/practice dynamics, the program’s mission is to educate scholars/practitioners with a deep understanding and self-reflexive ability to create and use knowledge in curriculum studies for the benefit of diverse local, national, and international communities. The program offers master’s and PhD degrees (Including college teaching as an emphasis area within the PhD option) and a graduate certificate. The OSU Curriculum Studies Project also offers a unique opportunity to bring internationally-renowned curriculum scholars together with students, teachers, faculty, and other curriculum leaders to address critical curriculum issues for the advancement of the field.

The successful candidate will value the Oklahoma State University land grant mission and embrace the opportunity to make a positive impact on the community through teaching, scholarship, and service.  This tenure-track faculty member will contribute to the field of curriculum studies and will have opportunities to collaborate with nationally and internationally recognized faculty in research and program development.  Major responsibilities include:

  • Establishing a scholarly research agenda through publications, grant writing, and presentations, and showing the potential for leadership in advancing the field of curriculum studies;
  • Teaching graduate level courses in areas such as curriculum design, pedagogical research, curriculum history, media literacy, curriculum theory, secondary curriculum, analysis of teaching, cultural diversity, college teaching, and curriculum issues;
  • Recruiting, advising, and mentoring graduate students;
  • Providing service to departmental, college, and university committees, and participating in professional organizations at local and national/international levels; and
  • Collaborating with faculty in other programs and engaging in purposeful University outreach to foster productive relationships with local communities.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • D. or Ph.D. with an emphasis in Curriculum Studies or closely related area;
  • Record of scholarly productivity or evidence of emerging research agenda;
  • Teaching experience at the levels of K-12 schools and higher education; demonstrated record of or potential for teaching excellence at the university level;
  • Strong working knowledge of various qualitative research methodologies;
  • Ability to build productive professional relationships with public schools, colleges, and local communities; and
  • Evidence of professional service and of efforts in seeking external grant funding.

PREFERED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Expertise in college curriculum and teaching;
  • Graduate-level teaching experience;
  • Effective online teaching and distance education records;
  • Accomplishment in obtaining and leading externally funded projects; and
  • Teacher education advocacy and leadership at the state level.

SALARY: Commensurate with experience and qualifications.

APPLICATION INFORMATION: The process of reviewing applications will begin March 1, 2018, and will continue until a successful candidate is selected (contingent upon available funding).  To apply, please visit http://jobs.okstate.edu and submit a letter of application, curriculum vita, statement of teaching, and statement of research interests (including comments regarding current and future research pursuits), transcripts, and the names and complete contact information (phone, email, physical mailing address) of three professional references.
