The History and Political Studies Department is recruiting candidates for an open position in American History. An ability to teach American history in its world context, with interests in the elements of American history that shine light on traditionally disadvantaged populations, would be especially valuable.

Applicants should demonstrate facility in the classroom, provide evidence of scholarly activity pertinent to history or politics, and have a strong interest in mentoring undergraduates and contributing to a strong interdisciplinary liberal arts program. Because this is a half-time position, candidates who demonstrate abilities and strong interest in joint positions within another department on campus, will be most successful.

The successful candidate will be a Seventh-day Adventist dedicated to integrating faith with teaching, performance and scholarship.

Ph.D. in History is ideal. ABDs who want to work part-time while finishing their dissertation are encouraged.

Members of historically underrepresented groups are especially encouraged to apply. Send 1) cover letter, 2) cv/resume, 3) statement of teaching philosophy to the chair of the department, Mark Peach peach@southern.edu. Three letters of recommendation, describing the teaching, scholarship and collegiality of the candidate, should be sent directly to Mark Peach, peach@southern.edu.
