JOHN BROWN UNIVERSITY, private, evangelical and Christian, seeks a faculty member to teach in the departments of Family & Human Services and Graduate Counseling. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, teaching introductory and advanced courses in both departments. Additional expectations are to be active in scholarship through publications and presentations at scholarly conferences and to participate in departmental and faculty-wide activities including advising and committee work.

The Family and Human Services program housed in the College of Education and Human Services contributes to JBU’s mission of providing Christ-centered education that prepares people to honor God and serve others by developing their intellectual, spiritual, and professional lives. The Family and Human Services curriculum follows the guidelines of the National Council for Family Relations and trains students to process everyday issues through a theological, theoretical, and practical paradigm. Students in this program often times find employment in the human services fields (i.e. Social Work, Counseling, Marriage and Family Therapy, Human Growth and Development, etc.). The degree provides an excellent foundation for graduate programs in marriage and family therapy, professional counseling, social work, and other related fields. The Graduate Counseling program has three degree tracks: Marriage & Family Therapy, Clinical Mental Health, & School Counseling, all of which lead to licensure.

An earned doctorate in social work, counselor education, counseling psychology, marriage and family, or a closely related field is preferred, ABD will be considered; masters required. Effective teaching experience in higher education, evidence of scholarly potential, and a commitment to Christian higher education are essential. Candidates should be willing to contribute to university life in areas such as academic advising, recruiting for the program and committee service.
