Job Description:

The Department of Spanish and Portuguese seeks a full-time, non-tenure track lecturer to teach upper division courses in Spanish linguistics. The position is 100% time, with a typical class workload of 5 courses per year. Appointment is renewable based on funding, and performance.

General duties include holding office hours, developing syllabi, assignments and writing exams. Other duties may be assigned by the Chair as necessary.

Basic qualifications (by the time of application): Applicants must have completed all Ph.D requirements except the doctoral dissertation or the equivalent at the time of application. College level teaching experience required.

Additional qualifications (by the time of employment): A PhD (or equivalent degree) in Hispanic linguistics, in linguistics with an emphasis in Spanish, or in a related field. Applicants must have native or near-native fluency in Spanish and English. Demonstrated experience in teaching undergraduate courses spanning several linguistic sub-fields including Phonology, Phonetics, Morphology, Syntax, Sociolinguistics, Second Language Acquisition, Psycholinguistics, and Language Contact. Experience with the aforementioned range of linguistic sub-fields specifically focusing on Hispanic Linguistics, as well as a strong interest in empirical and experimental approaches to Hispanic Linguistics.

Letter of application, updated curriculum vitae, statement of teaching philosophy, four recent teaching evaluations, two original teaching activities that reflect one or more linguistic sub-fields (as listed above in Additional qualifications), and contact information for three references are required of all applicants. Statement of Contribution to Diversity: statement addressing past and/or potential contributions to diversity through research, teaching and/or service is optional. Beginning salary is based on an annual full-time salary rate of $53,402. Actual salary will be commensurate with college level teaching experience.
