The Director of Disability Services provides leadership to the overall administration of programs and services that serve students with disabilities.  The Director is expected to be apprised of current changing federal and state regulations in disability matters and best practice guidance from AHEAD, the national professional association that guides the work of professionals in the disability field. The Director supervises all staff in the unit, serves as a disability subject matter expert for the campus, and coordinates all programs and services to qualified students.   Anticipated start date: Monday, March 5, 2018.  

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum / Required (these are absolute and required of all candidates)

  • Master’s degree in social work, sociology, psychology, counseling, or related field.
  • Four or more years of increased responsibilities within disability services.
  • Demonstrated understanding of Disability Service’s role in higher education.
  • Working knowledge of federal and state regulations impacting disability services.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks, objectives, and deliverables often with competing timelines.  

Highly Desired (these are the preferred qualifications of an ideal candidate for this position)

  • Experience in supervising personnel and leading teams.
  • Experience working in higher education setting.
  • Working knowledge of the social justice approach regarding disability.
  • Experience in budget management for an office or department.
  • Knowledge of Association of Higher Education and Disability (AHEAD) or other related organization.
  • Experience with developing, interpreting, or implementing policies and procedures.

The department is comprised of a director, two case managers, an office manager, a testing coordinator, an interpreter coordinator and two graduate students.
