UNIVERSITY LIBRARIAN
(Annual, 12 month appointment)

Eastern Michigan University is seeking a University Librarian to serve as chief administrator for the Library. The selected candidate will advance student and faculty learning through visionary leadership in planning, implementing, managing, and evaluating library services, collections, systems, facilities, and budgets.

EMU is a comprehensive university enrolling approximately 21,000 students at the under-graduate and graduate levels. The Bruce T. Halle Library is a hub for student and faculty support services. The Library faculty and staff seek a leader with honesty and integrity to provide intellectual and academic leadership and foster a culture of diversity and inclusion.

Successful candidates must have

  • a Master’s degree in Library and Information Sciences (ALA accredited or equivalent);
  • at least seven years of experience in the library/information technology field including three years as Assistant Director/Dean or in an equivalent library leadership role;
  • knowledge of the professional responsibilities of library faculty and staff;
  • experience in library/information services administration, program design/development, and budgeting;
  • proven ability to foster collaboration in the Library and across the University;
  • strong communication skills;
  • experience recruiting, developing, and evaluating library faculty and staff.

In addition, preference will be given to individuals who possess

  • credentials for appointment to rank of full professor and a strong record of scholarly and professional achievements;
  • experience working in collective bargaining and/or shared governance environments; 
  • experience writing and administering grants;
  • record of involvement with community and professional organizations;
  • earned doctorate and/or additional graduate degree.
