VICE PRESIDENT for UNIVERSITY ADVANCEMENT

California Lutheran University invites applications and nominations for the position of Vice President for University Advancement. The Vice President is the chief advancement officer of the University, reports to the President, and is a member of the President’s Cabinet. The University seeks a creative and accomplished executive who has gained distinction as an advancement leader, development officer, and fundraiser, preferably with extensive experience in a setting similar to Cal Lutheran’s. The new Vice President will provide vision, leadership, and direction for all advancement and alumni relations activities and is expected to be selected by June 1, 2018 and to take office shortly thereafter.

Founded in 1959 and located in the community of Thousand Oaks, halfway between Los Angeles and Santa Barbara and fifteen miles from the Southern California coast, California Lutheran University (Cal Lutheran) is a growing liberal arts university serving more than 2,950 undergraduate students and 1,270 graduate students coming from over 45 countries. Cal Lutheran was recently designated as a Hispanic Serving Institution (HSI) with 49% of undergraduates from underrepresented groups, and over 37% of first time freshmen are the first in their family to attend college. Cal Lutheran provides a challenging academic environment with emphasis on high achievement and helping students discover and live their purpose. Cal Lutheran is one of 26 universities and colleges affiliated with the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America.

Cal Lutheran offers undergraduate programs through the College of Arts and Sciences and the School of Management, and graduate and professional programs through the School of Management, Graduate School of Education, Graduate School of Psychology and Pacific Lutheran Theological Seminary. Thirty-six undergraduate majors and 41 minors are offered, along with three doctoral degrees and eight master’s programs.

Cal Lutheran’s many assets include: a dedicated alumni body of 27,000, an annual giving program that contributes $3.6 million to annual operations, an endowment of $109 million, and recent HSI STEM grants totaling $6.1 million providing academic support for underrepresented students in the sciences. The University is in the public phase on a $30 million science center to contain modern teaching and laboratory facilities for Biology, Chemistry, Marine Biology, and Exercise Science.
