Job Summary

Mount Sinai Health System seeks an exceptional development professional to expand its major and planned gifts capacity and grow philanthropic revenue. The successful candidate will oversee, manage and build philanthropy for the Health System, leading a fund-raising effort that capitalizes on current and emerging opportunities for support through major and planned gifts while identifying and maintaining a portfolio of top prospects. The Director will develop strategies for effective engagement of donors to support funding priorities and will work closely with key physicians, administrative leaders, and volunteer leadership. This position reports to the Deputy Chief Development Officer.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Personally manages a growing portfolio of prospects for the purpose of raising funds for strategic priorities as driven by the donor and strategically aligned with the institution.
• Identifies, cultivates, and solicits prospective donors for major and planned gifts; tracks and monitors donor histories; determines which donors to target and ensures appropriate outreach is designed and pursued for them; follows up with all prospects (personal visits, phone calls, letters) who have made or expressed interest in making a major or planned gift; ensures all donors are recognized for their contributions (correspondence, recognition and dedication events, celebrations, invitations to special events.)
• Interacts with physicians, scientists, other faculty and institutional leadership as needed to understand and promote fundraising priorities and needs. Leads and guides efforts to build greater links with physicians, grateful patients, and other prospective donors and stakeholders.
• Works collaboratively and creatively with other Development Directors and development colleagues to enhance the potential interest of donors. Partners and leverages relationships with Development colleagues to identify, cultivate, solicit and steward donors.
• Expands and manages a Planned Giving fundraising program with specific short-term and long-term objectives. Stays up-to-date on news and trends of benefits of planned giving.
• Manages the Planned Giving society; plan related special events with special events team to increase membership.
• Strategizes and consults with volunteer leadership, physicians, donors, and staff to identify, cultivate, solicit, and upgrade donors/prospects with gift planning strategies.
• Prepares charitable gift annuity illustrations for prospects and donors. Supplies necessary information to donors' attorneys and financial advisors.
• Oversees marketing material, e-newsletter and web site for constituencies. Spearheads online presence. Reviews content and design; coordinates all aspects of mailings, including coordinating with annual fund direct mailings.
• Conducts planned gift presentations to donors, alumni, faculty members, staff, and other constituencies.
• Serves as resource to staff and donors on charitable giving issues and tax law; advises attorneys, financial advisors, and other professionals on gift policies; attends staff meetings to discuss and consult on major gift reviews and strategy sessions. Works with Legal Counsel and Finance Offices regarding policy issues involving planned gifts.
• Analyzes program results and cost effectiveness of Planned Giving Program; develops reports and materials for presentation to Boards, Recommends annual goals and budget projections, makes recommendations for future actions.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Education

Bachelor's degree, Advanced degree preferred

Minimum Related Experience

• 7+ years directly related work experience with a successful track record in Major Gifts Fundraising and Planned Giving.

• Preference will be given to candidates who have worked in academic medical setting and /or complex nonprofit fundraising environment and have experience with capital campaigns.

Minimum Computer Skills

• Working knowledge of, and experience with, Planned Giving software such as Raisers’ Edge and PG Calc.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office products.

General Skills

• Thorough knowledge of Major Gift Fundraising and Planned Giving concepts, including complex     gifting strategies.                              
• Proven ability to build relationships.
