A tenure-line faculty position is available August 17, 2018, for a highly qualified counselor educator to teach courses in the graduate programs in the Department of Counseling Psychology, Social Psychology and Counseling.

Primary responsibilities include teaching in the clinical mental counseling program:  practicum supervision and participation in departmental clinic training activities and teach courses in the undergraduate and graduate programs consistent with teaching expertise in relevant area; research: keep abreast of recent scholarly developments in areas of specialty and incorporate into teaching as well as conduct and publish scholarly research; service: actively contribute to the intellectual and professional life of the Department, College of Health, Ball State University, and the surrounding community through general service and preventive, developmental and outreach orientation, and participate in local and national professional service activities.

Minimum qualifications: Doctorate from a CACREP accredited doctoral counselor education program by July 31, 2018; ABD candidates will be considered only if all degree requirements will be completed by July 31, 2018. The candidate should demonstrate professional competence in clinical mental health counseling, must demonstrate membership and involvement in the American Counseling Association, its Divisions, or Affiliate Associations, and provide evidence of research and scholarly activity in counseling. Eligibility for licensure as a Mental Health Counselor in the State of Indiana.     

Preferred qualifications: Special consideration will be given to candidates who can also contribute to other graduate programs within the department. Applicants should be able to supervise and mentor students in the areas of counseling practice, diversity, research, social justice, and advocacy, and demonstrate competence to serve on doctoral and master’s students’ committees.

 

The department (www.bsu.edu/counselingpsychology) offers training leading to an undergraduate minor in Interpersonal Relations and the following degrees: M.A. in counseling (CACREP-accredited Clinical Mental Health Counseling and Rehabilitation Counseling programs), M.A. in Social Psychology, and Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology (APA accredited). The department has a strong multicultural and social justice mission that has been in place since the 1980s.

 

The Community Counseling degree program at Ball State University was initially accredited by ACES in February 1980 and then later grandparented into CACREP when it formed in 1981. This program was in the first group of training programs to be accredited by CACREP and it has maintained CACREP accreditation since 1981. It became an accredited Clinical Mental Health Counseling program in July 2011. The faculty members involved in this program have extensive experience in ACA (e.g., Chairs of ACA and AMHCA Licensure Committees, Editor of JMHC, Co-Editor of Journal for Social Action in Counseling & Psychology, Editorial Board of JCD, JMHC, CES, and CDQ) and are recipients of ACA and AMHCA national awards.
