The Patton College of Education serves approximately 900 graduate students and 1800 undergraduate students in five departments (Counseling and Higher Education, Educational Studies, Teacher Education, Human and Consumer Sciences, and Recreation and Sport Pedagogy) and eleven research/clinical centers. The Counselor Education Program, Department of Counseling & Higher Education

The Counselor Education Program at Ohio University is housed in the Department of Counseling and Higher Education. The program was established in 1948 by George E. Hill, a national leader in Counselor Education. The first Ph.D. degree from the program was granted in 1962. All degree programs in Counselor Education are accredited by the Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP).  The program offers the Ph.D. in Counselor Education & Supervision, and M.Ed. in Counselor Education with specializations in Clinical Mental Health Counseling, School Counseling, and Clinical Mental Health/Clinical Rehabilitation Counseling. The George E. Hill Center for Counseling and Research is located within the Department of Counseling and Higher Education. Ohio University is home to the Alpha chapter of Chi Sigma Iota, Counseling Academic & Professional Honor Society International.

Position Description: Assistant Professor of Counselor Education (Tenure-Track)

Department of Counseling and Higher Education

The Department of Counseling and Higher Education at Ohio University (OHIO) invites applications for a nine-month, full-time, tenure-track  Assistant Professor position in Counselor Education for Academic Year 2018-2019. The positon will begin in August 2018.

At the master’s degree level, the OHIO Counselor Education Program offers CACREP-accredited specializations in Clinical Mental Health, Clinical Mental Health/Clinical Rehabilitation, and School Counseling. The OHIO Counselor Education program offers a doctoral program in Counselor Education and Supervision. The ideal candidate has the background and knowledge to contribute to the 8 CACREP core content areas, Clinical Rehabilitation Counseling specialization, and doctoral Counselor Education & Supervision program.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                           

Responsibilities include:

Teaching, Scholarship, and Service are required elements of this position.

• Teaching in graduate courses in clinical rehabilitation counseling, the 8 core CACREP content areas, and in doctoral courses;
• Advising and mentoring master’s and doctoral students;
• Supervising practicum and internship students;
• Maintaining an active scholarly agenda through publishing in refereed journals and other venues as well as presenting at professional conferences;
• Pursuing external funding as appropriate
• Participating in program, department, college, and university committees;
• Providing service to the community and/or to professional counseling organizations.

Required Qualifications

We are interested in collegial candidates who possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and meet the qualifications listed below:

• An earned doctorate in Counseling or Counselor Education and Supervision from a CACREP- accredited program or an earned doctorate in a CORE-accredited doctoral program with employment as a full-time faculty member in a counselor preparation program for a minimum of one full academic year before July 2013;

NOTE: Faculty in currently accredited Rehabilitation Counseling programs will be eligible under CACREP’s grand-parenting provision for to be considered core faculty in CACREP accredited programs if they 1) hold a doctoral degree from a counselor education program or a closely related profession, 2) are employed full-time within the program, 3) can demonstrate relevant preparation and experience in rehabilitation counseling, and 4) engage in activities relevant to the counseling profession, including holding appropriate memberships and certifications pertinent to rehabilitation counseling.   In addition, graduates of doctoral level rehabilitation counselor education programs who graduate prior to January 1, 2018 will be eligible to serve as core faculty in CACREP accredited programs for life (Source: http://www.cacrep.org/for-programs/cacrepcore-affiliation-faqs/);    

• A concentration in Clinical Rehabilitation Counseling or Rehabilitation Counseling, and Clinical Mental Health Counseling at the master’s or doctoral level;
• Evidence of successful rehabilitation counseling work experience;
• Evidence of successful college teaching experience;
• Evidence of scholarly productivity (e.g. published articles, book chapters, books, and/or professional conference presentations);
• Professional identity with the counseling profession through membership in professional organizations pertinent to counseling and rehabilitation counseling (e.g., ACA, ARCA, NCRE, NRA, and/or divisions);
• Licensed or license eligible as a professional counselor (LPC) in Ohio; must obtain within one year;
• National certification as a Certified Rehabilitation Counselor (CRC);
• Evidence of ability to teach and work with persons from diverse backgrounds.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Licensed or license eligible as a professional clinical counselor (LPCC) in Ohio;
• Evidence of successful college teaching experience at the graduate level;
• Evidence of experience with electronic distance education/online teaching;
• Evidence of ability to guide doctoral students through comprehensive examinations and the dissertation process.
