Job Description
The College of Liberal Arts is seeking an Assistant Professor of Political Science in American Politics. The successful candidate will teach introductory courses in American Government and State and Local Government as part of a collaborative teaching team working in the university's nationally recognized First-Year Learning Communities Program. In addition, the successful candidate will contribute to the teaching needs of the Political Science major with specializations in the fields of Judicial Politics or the Presidency.

A strong commitment to excellence in teaching, research, and service is expected. This is a tenure-track faculty position. The appointment will begin fall 2018. The normal teaching load will be 3-3.

The Department of Social Sciences (DSOC) is a multi-disciplinary department in the College of Liberal Arts that offers undergraduate degrees in Political Science and Criminal Justice and the graduate degree of Masters of Public Administration. Because of its contribution to the core curriculum, Political Science generates some of the highest levels of student credit hours in the University. The Criminal Justice program is one of the largest undergraduate majors on campus. The MPA program is the largest graduate program in the College of Liberal Arts. DSOC faculty are leaders on campus, in the community and in their disciplines. First-Year Learning Communities Program
Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi's First-Year Learning Communities Program (FYLCP) is an innovative nationally recognized program which helps students to make successful academic and social transitions from high school to the University. Required Qualifications:
Ph.D. in Political Science by September 1, 2018;
Meet the appropriate credentialing requirements for the Southern Association for Colleges and Schools (SACS);
Be able to teach both American National and State and Local government; and
Be available to accept teaching assignments that may include classroom, hybrid, and online classes.

Preferred Qualifications:
Demonstrate the ability to teach majors courses in Judicial Politics or the Presidency;
A desire for, or experience in a team teaching environment;
Have classroom and online teaching experience;
Can demonstrate teaching effectiveness through student evaluations, peer reviews, and/or self-evaluation, as well as demonstrate an active research program agenda that has resulted in or the potential to result in published scholarly works or peer-reviewed products;
Demonstrate a facility with student-centered, critical thinking methods of teaching;
Experience working with first-year students in higher education and learning communities; and
Demonstrate an understanding/appreciation of the University's student population and campus mission.
