Some highlights and details associated with this position:

  • Work schedule of Monday - Thursday, 8:00 a.m. - 5:30 p.m. and Friday 8:00 a.m. - noon. Over the summer, that changes to Monday - Thursday 7:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. with Friday off.
  • Health benefits-The District offers several plans to employees, many of them at no cost to the employee. Additionally, Butte College employees have access to two Health and Wellness Centers through Butte Schools Self-Funded Programs. Employees can receive free or reduced cost care (depending on plan election).
  • This twelve (12) month position earns twenty-three (23) days of vacation per fiscal year, accrued at the rate of 15.33 hours per month.
  • This position receives sick leave of one day per month of employment.

DEPARTMENT OVERVIEW:
Under the administrative direction of the Director of Institutional Advancement, assists in the development of and implements strategies, programs and initiatives intended to develop monetary support to the Butte College Foundation. Recruits and solicits donors; creates and maintains program specific tracking systems for fundraising, reports, records and files; coordinates high-level donor solicitations. These functions require a significant amount of coordination with the campus community, community leaders, and potential private and public donors.



Representative Duties:

The duties recorded below are representative of the duties of the class and are not intended to cover all the duties performed by incumbent(s) of any particular position.   1. Works with the Director for Institutional Advancement on the development and implementation of a comprehensive fundraising program including creating a portfolio of major individual donors and businesses; maintaining a donor database of current and prospective donors; identifying, cultivating and soliciting donors with larger potential and developing and implementing strategies to increase their donations; implementation of campaigns aimed at retirees, alumni, or other potential donors. Creating and managing a donor database and production of materials for targeted solicitations and donor recognition*
  2. Leads fundraising efforts to meet the goals of the Foundation Fundraising Plan*
  3. Researches donor potential, studies, tracks and analyzes giving trends; creates and maintains electronic filing systems. Tracks donor contacts and reports results*
  4. Works collaboratively and strategically with the Director of Institutional Advancement, College Superintendent/President, other fundraising professionals, faculty, staff, and other campus leaders. Provides prospect strategy counsel and training to the president, vice presidents, deans, directors, district and Foundation board members and advancement staff who are working with donor prospects, develops and implements strategies and proposals; and responds to opportunities for support from corporations and foundations*
  5. Identifies key public and private prospects, strategies and plans initiatives to network, cultivate and solicit prospective donors to help raise funds for the Foundation*
  6. Implements outreach strategies to promote Butte College and specific programs in need of funding including representing the Foundation at various business and community events, hosting on campus events and coordinating and hosting campus visits for prospects and donors*
  7. Participates in the record retention process and ensures records are retained in compliance with District and Foundation policies and procedures; provides documentation in response to California Public Records Act requests as needed*
  8. Maintains stewardship contacts with donors; adheres to the highest ethical standards; demonstrates empathetic disposition, and perseverance; reflects an optimistic and positive attitude, and conveys sensitivity to needs of the donors*
  9. Works collaboratively with the Director of Institutional Advancement, Butte College Superintendent/President, and Butte College Foundation Board to design, implement and manage a program of activities to generate philanthropic gift support for the Butte College Foundation*
  10. Meets weekly with the Director of Institutional Advancement and Superintendent/President to discuss fundraising activities and prospects. Assists with arranging donor meeting and events, preparing presentations, developing and producing publications and meeting arrangements as needed*
  11. Prepares and presents solicitation materials orally and in writing to prospects*
  12. Utilizes available resources and databases, as well as networking, to develop a list of corporate and foundation prospects deemed to be of strategic value in fulfilling the goals and objectives of the College*
  13. Prioritizes solicitations in alignment with the College's priorities, which include, but are not limited to: Promise Program Endowment, college academic and student support programs, and campus improvements*
  14. Coordinates efforts to ensure suitable recognition of donors and the execution of their intent, fiscal management of gifts and donations, and ensuring IRS guidelines*
  15. Stay informed on current college initiatives, educational programs, and activities
  16. Travel within the district and state to meet the responsibilities of the position*
  17. Provides backup for other Advancement staff and participates in Foundation events
  18. Compiles, calculates costs and sends invoices to event or program participants; coordinates invoices and collection activities with Business Services
  19. Performs related duties and responsibilities as required


Qualifications/Requirements:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

  • A bachelor's degree in business administration, public administration, public relations, communications or a closely related field or the equivalent* AND
  • Three (3) years of work experience directly related to the responsibilities of this class.
* Two (2) years of increasingly responsible work experience for each full year (24-30 units) of college. Work experience must be in an office setting and include functions associated with this position.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATION AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
  • Valid California Driver's license maintained throughout duration of employment with the District.
DIVERSITY QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity and sexual orientation and ethnic backgrounds of community college students and staff.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • A master's degree in any of the above fields.
  • Fundraising experience in the California Community College System.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
May be acquired through education, training and/or experience.
Knowledge of and ability to interpret and apply District policies, rules, procedures, laws and ordinances pertaining to the specific responsibilities of the position.
Knowledge of: methods, strategies and practices of effective private and public fundraising and donor development for educational institutions; principles and practices of fund development techniques; professional ethical standards and practices as identified and agreed to by the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP) or a similar body; community relations and outreach; federal, state and local laws, codes and regulations related to foundations and gift receipts; principles and practices of sound business communication; correct English usage including spelling, grammar and punctuation; basic research methods and data analysis techniques; capabilities of donor management computer applications; general accounting systems, practices and procedures; modern office practices and technology.
Ability to: make sound educated decisions; manage a heavy workload; implement donor development programs including database management; develop fundraising materials and website/social media messaging; work with details and figures in an accurate and organized manner; motivate and provide supervision to employees; be an effective and persuasive public speaker; coordinate and administer a scholarship program; effectively represent an organization to high-level donors and potential donors; secure donations (cash and in-kind) for post-secondary educational institutions; compose clear, concise and comprehensive analyses, correspondence policies and procedures, reports, studies, agreements, presentations and other written materials; plan and coordinate the most effective use of resources to achieve goals; work independently; utilize keyboarding skills commensurate with the required functions for this position; establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of work; work with diverse populations; make required mathematical calculations accurately; maintain records accurately and with confidentiality as required.

PRE-EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS:

  1. The successful applicant will be required to complete a medical history questionnaire and must agree to undergo and pass a pre-employment physical examination, based on the physical requirements of the position, prior to employment.
