LIM College – Where Business Meets Fashion is
currently seeking candidates for the position of Assistant
Professor of Communication and Media Studies.
Founded in 1939, LIM College educates students for success in the global business of fashion and its many related industries. As a pioneer in experiential education, LIM fosters a unique connection between real-world experience and academic study in business principles, offering master's, bachelor's and associate degree programs in a variety of fashion-focused majors. Located in the heart of New York City — the nation's fashion and business capital — LIM provides students with innumerable opportunities for firsthand experience and professional development. The LIM College Department of Arts and Sciences invites applications for an Assistant Professor of Communication and Media Studies beginning August 2018. Candidates should have a Ph.D. in Communication, Media Studies, or closely-related field by the time of appointment. Successful candidates for this position should have an established record of strong teaching as well as an established or emerging record of publication. Candidates should demonstrate an ability to teach a range of courses in the department's communications division, including introductory classes in the areas of public speaking and professional communication, as well as advanced classes on contemporary mass media. The ability to teach courses with a journalism and/or or media production component is desirable but not required. We are also looking for the prospective faculty member to develop electives in his/her area of specialization. Finally, the successful candidate will be proficient with Blackboard or another learning management system. The faculty member will have the opportunity to join a tightly-knit department and help develop our recently-launched Fashion Media major. Full-time faculty members at the rank of assistant professor are responsible for teaching four classes per semester, providing service to the college, and for conducting scholarship in the field. Faculty contribute to the department's curriculum and assist the department chair in the mentoring and managing of adjunct faculty. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND BASIC DUTIES:

- Teach 4 courses per semester
- Stay current with innovative teaching methods and industry developments
- Contribute to the profession through research, consulting, presentations, and/or publications
- Hold regular office hours weekly
- Assist the Department Chair in course and program assessment as well as curriculum development
- Assist the Department Chair and other faculty in norming core courses
- Conduct observations of faculty as assigned by Chair or Associate Chair
- Work closely with other faculty as a mentor and resource
- Serve on the Faculty Council and standing committees
- Contribute to college-wide Admissions programs and initiatives
- Actively engage with the field through relevant association memberships
- Work well in a team environment
- Perform other duties as assigned
- Ph.D. in Communication, Media Studies, or a related field from an accredited school is required; ABD with completion anticipated by August 2018 can be considered.
- Knowledge of fields taught within the major
- College level teaching experience
- Two or more years teaching experience
