Job Description:

Under the administrative guidance of CO-Principal Investigators, this individual will work closely and collaboratively with stakeholders across the University to direct, organize, and execute against large-scale Research and Development projects involving University Technology Office (UTO) and EdPlus Action Lab through the daily tactical and strategic management of research and learning analytics data architecture. This individual will provide leadership and strategic vision consistent with the mission of the University and ensure operational effectiveness and efficiency through consistent application of necessary operational controls, procedures, and personnel to achieve operational, research, and innovation objectives.

Essential Duties:

  • Serves as central point of control and management in the coordination of efforts by all parties, oversees daily operational direction and guidance, and supports and reinforces the timely delivery of new research and development innovation through implementation of critical leadership and management strategies.
  • Works collaboratively with multiple stakeholder roles regarding all operational aspects to ensure successful execution of strategic goals and that all objectives are met on time and are within established scope and budget.
  • Manages UTO relationships for data acquisition including how data applies to long-range research projects.
  • Manages and directs multiple stakeholder roles to coordinate internal ASU resources and staff for research activities. Requirements include, but not limited to the following: research processes and methods, research publishing/dissemination, and communication/collaboration of research outcomes throughout ASU.
  • Leads development, communication, and implementation of appropriate standards, policies, processes, and methods to ensure adherence to data policy and ethical standards.
  • Works closely and collaboratively with all relevant stakeholders, assists in definition of project scope and objectives related to ASU’s role, and analyzes research data results to ensure technical feasibility.
  • Leads and directs communication, and tactical and strategic counsel with project advisory board to ensure ongoing knowledge, understanding, and support are consistent with project objectives.
  • Develops and executes project plan(s) related to ASU’s roles and responsibilities in the ASU portion of the scope of work.
  • Works collaboratively with the management team to develop, implement, and assess plans for operational infrastructure, systems, and processes.
  • Provides advice on financial and operational performance; recommends strategies to address issues, increase efficiency/effectiveness, and improve overall operations.
  • Collaborates with, manages, and prepares reports on parallel activities within Action Lab and UTO; makes recommendations for changes and adjustments to scope of work as applicable, escalating issues impeding success of overall project.
  • Collaborates with senior leadership; implements appropriate Human Resources management methods and strategies to promote a culture of high performance, accountability, and continuous improvement; works consultatively with the ASU Office of Human Resources as needed.
  • Leads and directs institutional research collaborations; acts as central point of communication and collaboration with all stakeholders and institutions involved with research projects.
  • Identifies and creates strategies for third party organizations’ involvement for data analysis; establishes and maintains relationships necessary for the success of the project.
  • Creates, delivers, and maintains comprehensive project documentation and progress reports for the ASU Foundation and EdPlus.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

Master's degree in Business Administration, Organizational Development, Psychology or a related field AND eight (8) years of directly related operational experience including four (4) years’ experience in a leadership role in a culturally diverse organization focusing on organizational development and management; OR, any equivalent combination of experience and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills, and abilities have been achieved.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of online learning systems in higher education in addition to the financial and student outcomes related to execution of large-scale online programs.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of budget management methods and techniques.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of principles, concepts, and practices of Human Resources and Organizational Management.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of principles, practices, methods and standards of project management.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of qualitative and quantitative research techniques, processes, and reporting.
  • Experience in working with a diverse and complex university community as well as multiple external constituencies.
  • Experience in problem solving and decision-making.
  • Experience in planning, analyzing, and coordinating activities and establishing priorities.
  • Experience in effectively managing, mentoring, leading, supervising, and evaluating assigned staff.
  • Experience in developing and executing forecast and tracking models that integrate disparate statistical and financial information.
  • Experience in formative project development and launch in addition to associated ambiguity and iterative development.
  • Experience in thinking strategically, anticipating future consequences and trends and incorporating them into the organizational plan.
  • Experience in building organization and staff capacity effectively, developing a superlative workforce and processes required to ensure the organization runs smoothly.
  • Experience in acting and react as necessary, even when limited information is available; ability to take charge in stressful situations, and overcoming resistance to leadership and take unpopular stands as necessary.
  • Experience in working effectively in an environment subject to quickly changing priorities and short deadlines.
  • Experience in developing and maintaining effective and cooperative working relationships both within and across organizational areas.
  • Experience in meeting project deadlines.
  • Evidence of effective verbal, written and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience in using presentation skills.
  • Experience in stimulating changes in individual, institutional, and corporate behaviors to create a more sustainable environment.

Working Environment:

  • Activities are performed in an environmentally controlled office setting subject to extended periods of sitting, keyboarding, and manipulating a computer mouse.
  • Required to stand for varying lengths of time and walk moderate distances to perform work.
  • Occasional bending, reaching, lifting, pushing and pulling up to 25 pounds.
  • Regular activities require ability to quickly change priorities that may include and/or are subject to resolution of conflicts.
  • Position may require travel up to 30% of the time.
