The Rollins Center for Language & Literacy, a program of the Atlanta Speech School, is dedicated to the mission of training and supporting teachers of young children in the area of language and literacy development. We synthesize the nation’s best research in this area and translate it into best practices teachers can put in place right away. Through our on-site work and online campus, we offer ongoing mentoring and coaching to teachers with the goal that by 2020, ALL children are on a path to reading proficiently by the end of third grade. WHO ARE WE SEEKING?

The Rollins Center is currently seeking a creative, experienced instructional designer with a focus on early learning (birth to 5 years). S/he will embrace the Rollins 2020 goal and have a clear vision of how this role directly supports the effort. The ideal candidate will have a background in education, a passion for online learning, and a strong conviction about its power to change adult behavior. S/he should be able to meld minds with subject matter experts and team members.

 

POSITION SUMMARY

Working under the supervision of the Rollins Assistant Director for Academics, Data, and Evaluation, the Early Learning Instructional Designer conceptualizes and creates online professional development content that will enable teachers of children birth to 5 to become more effective in their work. The Early Learning Instructional Designer works closely with other content and online team members to design and develop innovative coursework and related educational resources that bring critical content to life for our online learning community. In close collaboration with our subject matter experts and using a custom e-learning platform, he/she will write, edit, revise, and produce instructional content that emphasizes adult learning concepts and interactive learning practices, and integrates graphic and instructional design principles. Priority deliverables include revisions and improvements to existing coursework, development and insertion of training reinforcements, and development of related course resources. The position has the potential to include development of new coursework and alternative delivery methodologies.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate closely with subject matter experts to identify and develop learning goals and objectives
  • Apply innovative instructional design methods and strategies to design and develop powerful interactive learning experiences
  • Support all aspects of the instructional design process, including defining, developing, implementing, and revising instructional materials and assessments.
  • Make revisions to existing online Preschool/Pre-K courses/supporting materials that will result in improved course effectiveness
  • Develop, maintain and organize educational resources for Resource Library
  • Create/write content for social media, e.g., blog posts
  • Assist in the development of assessment tools to measure learner satisfaction, comprehension, and application of strategies and knowledge
  • Analyze data/feedback on course assessments and make recommendations for change and improvements
  • Identify new trends and adopt new approaches as needed
  • Identify ways to improve teacher learning experiences, including through the use of community discussions, training reinforcements, webinars, and communication

 

 

What might some projects look like? Examples of the work

  • Review existing Preschool/Pre-K courses currently on the Cox Campus
    • Modify/make adaptations to existing course, to enhance learner experience
    • Update assessments, add reflection and community questions, insert training reinforcement messaging
  • Review resources in the Resource Library on Cox Campus to check for quality, alignment, and consistency in formatting
  • Create new resources related to language and literacy development to support teachers of children birth to 5 years
  • Continuously create online adaptive learning reinforcements using Intercom technology
  • Assist in developing a script for a new course

 

Supervisory Responsibilities: None

 

REQUIRED Skills/Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Instructional Design, Curriculum and Instruction, or Instructional Technology
  • Early childhood (Birth to 5) education background, including teaching experience, strongly preferred
  • 3-5 years of professional experience in online instructional design, preferably, developing online training content
  • Knowledge of instructional design, curriculum development, and adult learning principles
  • Knowledge of developing learner engagement and knowledge/skill transfer activities
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

 

  • Ability to independently manage work schedule in a fast-paced production-centered environment
  • Ability to work both independently and collaborate as part of a team
  • Ability to follow detailed instructions and/or act on feedback, meet tight deadlines and balance multiple high-priority and ongoing deliverables
  • High degree of flexibility and good humor!
  • Extraordinary organization skills
  • Willingness to work collaboratively with others to accomplish tasks and deadlines in a teams based environment
  • Ability to quickly understand target learner population’s characteristics and needs and reflect those in the design of all products

Compensation and Benefits:

This is a 220-day, full-time school position, offering a generous benefit package including health/dental/life/vision and long term disability insurance. The Speech School subsidizes health insurance premiums of staff and families. Other benefits include Flexible Spending Account; 403(b) Plan; cost reduction of some Atlanta Speech School services; complimentary meals during working hours; and accrued sick leave.

 

Salary: Salary is commensurate with experience.
