PRIMARY DUTY:

      Under the direction of the Assistant Director, Wellness Services-Counseling, this position develops a partnership between the Division of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion and Wellness Services to provide regular consultation and effective psychological interventions with students from underserved and diverse populations. This counselor position is primarily located in Wellness Services, however space in the Student Engagement Center of the Student Union will also be utilized for this position. 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

1)     Facilitates the optimal functioning and well-being of NW students by providing individual, couples, and group counseling.

2)     Effective in counseling people from diverse backgrounds and identities including ethnicity/race, gender, sexual identity, disabilities, religion, socio-economic status, age, and others with a demonstrated commitment to improving access to higher education for under-represented groups.  

3)     Contributes to a work environment that encourages knowledge of, respect for, and development of skills to engage with others regardless of race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, gender identity, or religious beliefs.

4)     Works closely with stakeholders across campus including, but not limited to, the offices of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion; Student Affairs; International Programs; and University Police Department.

5)     Ensures that the concerns of students are addressed in an appropriate manner through psychological assessment procedures, making referrals when indicated.

6)     Promotes responsible care of Wellness Service’s students by maintaining documentation in Point and Click/Electronic Health Record of contacts, consultations, and referrals in accordance with professional guidelines.

7)     Ensures that the needs of students are addressed in emergency situations by providing crisis intervention services during office hours and after hours as needed.

8)     Provides programing, workshops, and presentations by participating in proactive outreach.

9)     Pursues ongoing professional development in cultural competencies to provide services to students of all backgrounds.

10)  Remains knowledgeable about current trends in counseling, psychotherapy, and student development through presentations, publications, and memberships in professional organizations and obtaining Continuing Education Units (CEU’s) as required by the state licensing and regulatory board.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

      We are particularly interested in receiving applications from historically under-represented groups.

      Education: Master’s degree in counseling, psychology, social work, or related field from an accredited college or university

      Certification/License: licensed, licensed eligible, or licensed seeking in Missouri

      Experience: 1-3 years of experience in a mental health/counseling setting

      Skills: communication, counseling, and people skills     

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

      Education: Licensed Clinical Social Worker

      Certification/License: Professional licensure in Missouri

      Experience: Previous experience 1-3 year in a mental health/counseling setting and a specialization in working with diversity, equity, and inclusion at a higher education institution

      Skills: Excellent research/assessment skills      

WORKING CONDITIONS: This position will work in a typical office environment from the hours of 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. with an hour lunch break and may be required to work additional hours during nights and weekends.
