Dean School of Education Indiana University Bloomington Bloomington, IN

Indiana University Bloomington (IUB) seeks a collaborative, innovative, strategic, and enterprising leader to serve as Dean of the School of Education. The IUB School of Education (SoE), consistently ranked among the top education schools in the U.S., has developed a strong national and international reputation for academic excellence, preparing reflective, caring, and highly skilled practitioners and scholars who go on to inform educational theory and practice, and effect change locally and globally. The School is on an exciting trajectory, developing cutting edge research, learning, and practice to improve the quality of education throughout the P-20 continuum; expanding innovative initiatives to strengthen and extend global impact; and offering a premier teacher preparation program.

With over 40,000 undergraduate students and more than 10,000 students in graduate and professional programs, Indiana University Bloomington is a member of the Association of American Universities, and is the flagship research-intensive campus of Indiana University. The campus has 17 colleges and schools comprising over 550 degree-granting academic programs at the bachelor's, master's, doctoral, and professional levels. The School of Education's 103 faculty members offer undergraduate, graduate, and certificate program education to 800 undergraduate and over 1,000 graduate students. With an annual operating budget of $34.8 million in FY 2017 and more than $7.7 million in external grant funding, the SoE includes six specialty centers and institutes and is divided into five academic departments: Counseling and Educational Psychology; Curriculum and Instruction; Educational Leadership and Policy Studies; Instructional Systems Technology; and Literacy, Culture and Language Education.

Reporting to the Executive Vice President and Provost, the Dean will provide leadership for the academic and administrative activities of the School, embracing its commitment to training teachers and school leaders, and enabling innovative research on teacher training, pedagogy, curriculum, and administration. The Dean will mobilize and allocate resources; and partner with schools, agencies, peer institutions, and external constituencies. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a propensity toward collaborative leadership, bring high energy, a passion for exemplary research and innovative pedagogy, and exhibit a strategic understanding of how to influence the national dialogue around education practice. The successful candidate will have a strong record of relevant research and scholarship, a proven ability to manage complex organizations, and a demonstrated ability to attract resources and funding. This is an exceptional opportunity for an experienced, visionary leader to advance a critical academic unit that serves a vital role for the University and the state, and to assume a national leadership position in the field of education.

In this effort, Indiana University Bloomington has retained Isaacson, Miller, a national executive search firm, to assist a university search committee. Applicants should have a record of achievement and scholarship in a field related to education; a track record of success in promoting diversity and inclusion; a thorough understanding of and commitment to the undergraduate experience, coupled with appreciation and enthusiasm for stellar graduate education; and demonstrated knowledge of governmental programs, agencies, and policies related to education.

Acceptance of inquiries, nominations, and applications will begin immediately and continue until the completion of the search process. Applicants are encouraged to transmit a detailed letter of interest and resume directed to: Gale Merseth, Vice President, Vijay Saraswat, Senior Associate, & Andarla Hodge, Associate: Isaacson, Miller at www.imsearch.com/6433
