The Department of Politics and The Van Andel Graduate School at Hillsdale College invite application for a tenure-track faculty position (rank open), beginning August, 2018. The Department’s needs are greatest in Classical Political Philosophy, so candidates with a credible record of teaching and scholarly work in that area will receive strongest consideration. Candidates with an additional specialty in International Relations, Comparative Politics, or American Foreign Policy will be prioritized. Applicants should be aware that their teaching responsibilities will range from an introductory core course for freshmen and sophomores to graduate level classes. Since the Department services a graduate program, applicants will need to have a record of scholarly publication, and should have a Ph.D. in hand.
Hillsdale College is a small (1400 students) independent college of
liberal arts, dedicated to excellence in teaching and advising
students. Applicants should familiarize themselves with the
College’s mission statement: https://www.hillsdale.edu/about/mission/.
The College also considers itself a trustee of our Western
philosophical and theological inheritance tracing to Athens and
Jerusalem, a heritage finding its clearest expression in the
American experiment of self-government under law.
Complete applications will include: (a) letter of application; (b)
curriculum vitae; (c) transcripts; (d) three up-to-date letters of
recommendation, (e) a statement of teaching and research interests;
(f) samples of publications or other scholarly manuscripts. Within
the statement of teaching and research interests there should be a
detailed response to the College’s mission statement that includes
a discussion of the applicant’s ability to teach in light of its
commitments. For further information on the undergraduate and
graduate programs, visit www.hillsdale.edu and
gradschool.hillsdale.edu.
Review of applications will begin on January 15th and continue
until the position is filled. Send all application materials by
email or regular mail to Dr. Ronald J. Pestritto, Graduate Dean and
Professor of Politics, Hillsdale College, 33 E. College Street,
Hillsdale, MI 49242. Email submissions may be sent to
PoliticsSearch@hillsdale.edu. Salary competitive. EOE.
