The successful candidate will be part of this vibrant program
and contribute to the ever-changing design discipline.
Responsibilities include:
• teach up to three courses per semester at the BFA and/or the MFA
level,
• participate in curriculum development,
• pursue research/creative activity and building a substantive
record of professional/peer recognition, and
• engage in service to the school, college, university, community
and profession.
• An MFA, MDes or PhD degree in communication design, visual
communication, graphic design, interaction design, or related
discipline completed before September 2018.
• A record of professional accomplishments in research/creative
activity within the area of interaction design as it pertains to
the communication design discipline.
• Demonstrated knowledge in design utilizing current and emerging
interactive technologies, via Web Design, Mobile Application Design
(iOS or Android), User Experience Design (UX), User Interface
Design (UI), HTML/CSS, typography for screen, social media
strategies, rapid prototyping techniques, user testing
methodologies, design research, and other pertinent skills.
• Successful college-level teaching experience (faculty of record,
student teaching accepted) in the area of communication
design.
• Strong design mechanics and conceptual skills.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Knowledge of and experience with computer-mediated technologies,
core and emerging software applications, relevant to the
Communication Design discipline.
The successful applicant will receive the appropriate rank and title based on the university and school established standards.
Preferred Qualifications• One or more years of successful university-level teaching
interaction design as it pertains to the communication design
discipline (graduate teaching included).
• Three or more years of professional work experience, as an
interaction designer and ability to bring those experiences into
the classroom.
• Curriculum development for interaction design at all levels,
including foundations.
• Knowledge of and experience in motion graphics, digital film,
animation, brand, 3D animation, virtual/augmented reality, and the
digital space.
• Knowledge of and experience in fabrication of physical objects
(3D printing, CNC, etc.) as it pertains to interaction
design.
• Online and/or hybrid teaching experience.
• Service-related activities in undergraduate and graduate design
program(s), or professional organization(s).
• Successful funding procurement and grant activity.
• Graduate-level research/theses supervision and advising
experience.
• Application of design thinking and user-centered methodologies in
classroom and research.

7. Statement addressing your current interaction design work as it
pertains to the communication design discipline (one page
maximum).
8. Contact information (e-mail address, phone numbers) for three
current references.
Search finalist will be asked to provide photocopies of graduate transcripts. The candidate selected for hire will be required to provide official transcripts from all degree granting universities.
Examples of web/video/animation/motion graphics must be listed as hyperlinks within the PDF file and link to portfolio web sites or video sharing sites such as Vimeo. Do not upload motion graphics files.
