DIRECTOR OF WRITING IN THE DISCIPLINES
Expository Writing Program
ARTS AND SCIENCE
New York University
New York University’s Expository Writing Program (EWP) invites
applications for the position of Director of Writing in the
Disciplines, beginning September 1, 2018, subject to budgetary and
administrative approval. This is a Continuing Contract Faculty
position at the rank of clinical assistant professor. Initial
appointment will be for a three-year term with the possibility of
renewal for subsequent multi-year terms, as well as promotion in
rank.
The Expository Writing Program is an independent academic unit
within the College of Arts and Science, comprised of a vibrant
faculty of over 100 writers and scholars. In collaboration with the
Writing Center, Writing in the Disciplines is the primary outreach
initiative of EWP.
The director will be charged with developing a vision and strategy
for supporting writing in the disciplines and across the curriculum
at NYU. Serving as part of EWP’s leadership team, the director will
also work within EWP to enhance first-year writing instruction as a
result of that institutional outreach and learning. Teaching load
is one course per semester, with the expectation of administrative
work over the summer. More information is available on EWP’s
website.
Qualifications:
The successful candidate will have a demonstrated record of
leadership in writing in the disciplines or writing across the
curriculum, experience in building program initiatives, and
excellence in teaching writing and/or writing-intensive courses. We
are particularly interested in candidates with experience working
effectively with faculty from a broad array of disciplines and
diverse backgrounds. A PhD is preferred, although candidates with
an EdD, MFA, or other appropriate terminal degree are encouraged to
apply.
Applications will be accepted until the position is filled.
Applications received by December 1, 2017 will receive first
consideration. To apply, submit a cover letter, including
a statement of teaching philosophy and a discussion of your
approach to WID/WAC work and program leadership; a cv; and names of
three references. We welcome applicants who can collaborate
with a range of faculty and advise a range of students, including
historically underrepresented individuals (people of color, LGBTQ+
people, and people with disabilities).
