The University of Montevallo, Alabama’s public liberal arts

Colleges and Schools and is a member of the Council of Public
Liberal Arts Colleges (COPLAC), a national alliance of leading
liberal arts colleges in the public sector. Adjacent to Birmingham,

Education (COE) offers both
undergraduate and graduate programs and consists of two
departments, Teaching, Leadership and Technology and

As the chief administrative officer for the COE, the Dean is responsible for planning, developing, assessing, and administering all aspects of the College’s academic programs, budgets, and activities. The Dean provides leadership and vision in upholding academic and accreditation standards and supports the faculty in their teaching, scholarship, and service. As a representative of the COE both within the university as well as the larger community, the Dean demonstrates a collaborative nature that promotes positive partnerships with individuals, agencies, and organizations. Familiarity with the process of certification and licensure is essential. The University of Montevallo seeks candidates who have a proven record of professional accomplishment, outstanding leadership skills, and exemplary personal integrity. The ideal candidate will have sensitivity to, and an appreciation of, faculty governance and evidence of commitment to faculty input in the decision-making process. Candidates must have an earned Doctorate in a discipline within the COE and a minimum of five years of full-time teaching in higher education. Additionally, the candidate must have management experience in higher education at the Director, Chair, Associate Dean, or Dean level.
