THE COMMISSION FOR EDUCATIONAL EXCHANGE BETWEEN THE UNITED STATES AND SRI LANKA SEEKS EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

Applications are invited from United States and Sri Lankan citizens for the position of Executive Director of the United States-Sri Lanka Fulbright Commission (U.S.-SLFC), a non-profit, bi-national commission, managed by a Board of Directors responsible for administering the Fulbright Program in Sri Lanka and other educational grants funded by the U.S. Department of State and the U.S. Department of Education. The U.S.-SLFC Executive Director reports to the Board and oversees programs promoting U.S. higher education throughout Sri Lanka.

Candidates should have a bachelor’s degree, advanced degree preferred; six to eight years of experience in higher education, management, or related fields; and strong familiarity with international educational exchange programs. Competitive candidates will demonstrate creativity and innovation, as well as effective managerial skills, and an acute understanding of and vision for U.S. – Sri Lanka educational relations and opportunities.

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience in academic exchange program administration; educational counseling and advising students on graduate study and academic research in the U.S. and Sri Lanka. Knowledge of or experience with U.S. Government academic exchange programs is an advantage;
  • Strategic and operational management experience with demonstrated program management and leadership talents to engage and energize a board of directors and to lead, develop, and retain a team. Strong oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills including public speaking;
  • Ability and experience in financial planning, budget oversight, fundraising, marketing, and public relations;
  • Experience using social media as a marketing and recruitment tool in order ensure thorough promotion of Fulbright opportunities to all ethnic and religious groups, to all regions in Sri Lanka and the United States, and to better reach the youth cohort (post undergraduate degree);
  • Ability to represent U.S.-SLFC to governmental, academic, and business communities, and to build relationships and maintain contacts with relevant U.S. and Sri Lankan institutions;
  • Talent at fostering effective team work and developing high performance teams, implementing annual reviews;
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of ethnic, religious, and cultural environments in both countries.

The responsibilities of the Executive Director include, but are not limited to, the overall administration of the Commission in Colombo, with travel within Sri Lanka and at least one annual trip to the United States for pre-departure orientation and consultations.
