Position: Full-time Lecturer I in Acting with a specialty in Physical Theater
Duties: Teaching six classes per year is required: a variety of Acting and Performance courses, including Introduction to Acting. Participate with the rest of the faculty in mentoring students and the realization of the program’s mission. http://mta.mit.edu/theater-arts
Qualifications: Candidate should hold an MFA or PhD in Acting or Performance (completed by July 1, 2018), or possess 5-10 years of equivalent professional experience in the Performing Arts, with an emphasis on Physical Theater, and have demonstrated success as a teacher at the university level or as a trainer of professionals in the field. Modes of physical theater sought may include, but need not be limited to: Commedia dell’arte; contemporary or intercultural approaches to dance and choreography as they relate to theater and physical engagement; improvisation techniques; Lecoq; or Suzuki. The successful candidate will be a practicing artist open to theatrical experimentation and varied modes of expression, and will join the acting and directing faculty in the instruction of introductory acting classes as well as classes in his or her specialization.
A secondary area of competence is required. Among some possibilities are: somatic practices; new media; scenography; theater performance theory; voice and speech; sound design; music theater, puppetry, etc. The rank of Lecturer I holds an initial appointment of three years, followed by successive reviews, reappointment and potential promotion to Lecturer II.
