Lecturer of Musical Theatre

Department of Theatre and Performance Studies

 

Kennesaw State University is now accepting applications for a nine-month, non-tenure track Lecturer of Musical Theatre faculty position in the Department of Theatre and Performance Studies, College of the Arts.

 

Position Responsibilities:

The Department of Theatre and Performance Studies (NAST accredited) seeks applications for a Lecturer in Musical Theatre to begin August, 2018. The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate a broad knowledge of diverse musical theatre styles and repertoire as well as work directly with the Musical Theatre Concentration Coordinator as accompanist and vocal coach for multiple musical theatre technique classes, auditions and juries, and other musical theatre performances. Primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to: accompanying musical theatre classes, music directing (piano/conducting) department musical productions, programming keyboards, rehearsing roles for production, arranging music, transposition, and private vocal coaching of musical theatre performers. Potential opportunities may arise to offer courses in musical theatre performance, musicianship, audition preparation, or other topics per candidate’s experience and expertise. Ability to provide vocal technique coaching is a plus.

The department seeks candidates who have a record of success teaching individuals from underrepresented groups in higher education and whose professional experiences have prepared them to contribute to our commitment to diversity and inclusion in higher education. Candidates are encouraged to describe how diversity issues have been or will be brought into their teaching and service.

Within this program, the Musical Theatre Concentration is a dynamic force, offering training in voice, dance, and performance, in collaboration with the School of Music and the Department of Dance.

 

Required Education, qualifications, and experience:

Master’s degree or its foreign equivalent, strong keyboard skills, and significant professional experience in musical theatre music direction and/or accompanying are required. Applicants with the training, ability, and/or experience equivalent to the minimum degree may be considered.

Terminal degree is ideal.
