Faculty and Associate Faculty Members, Graduate Programs in Counseling

Prescott College is a private, non-profit, liberal arts university in the central highlands of Arizona with a mission that emphasizes self-directed, interdisciplinary, experiential learning for social justice and environmental sustainability.

In our preparation for CACREP accreditation, the Psychology, Human Development and Counselor Education Department is seeking one or more full-time faculty members and one or more part- or full-time associate faculty members to serve in the graduate Counseling programs.  The limited-residency delivery model blends a core curriculum that combines online, in-person, and community-based learning and that follows the standards set by CACREP. The program integrates theoretical study, field work, on-campus residencies, internships and practica, and community engagement to prepare diverse learners for professional licensure.  Faculty govern the curricula, teach courses, advise students, support student learning, engage in scholarship and professional engagement with the field, and may be assigned to oversee a particular curricular area.

Aside from specializations in Clinical Mental Health Counseling, Couple & Family Counseling, School Counseling, and Addiction Counseling, a distinctive feature of this graduate program are the areas of emphasis, such as Somatic Therapy and Social Justice Counseling, and the range of alternative modalities offered as concentrations and post-graduate certificates (e.g., Equine Assisted Mental Health; Expressive Art Therapy, Eco and Adventure-based therapy). The area of expertise in a particular counseling specialization is open, but preference will be given to those with the ability to lead and/or to contribute in the existing emphases or concentration areas. Faculty with appropriate qualifications may contribute to the development and implementation of a proposed Ed.D. in Counselor Education.

Faculty positions are on-campus positions and would require relocation to Prescott, AZ.  Associate Faculty positions require periodic travel to our on-campus colloquia events.

More detailed position descriptions and application process is available at http://www.prescott.edu/jobs/.  In addition to a cover letter explaining approach to pedagogy, scholarly agenda, and connection to departmental offerings and Prescott College mission, applicants should also include a statement describing how they’ve worked to promote diversity, equity and inclusion in their previous positions -- as graduate students or professors -- and how they plan to continue to do so once at Prescott College.  Prescott College is committed to equal opportunity employment.  Candidates from under-represented groups, candidates fluent in Spanish, and those willing and able to advance the college's commitment to diversity are especially encouraged to apply.

Education and Experience

  • Earned doctoral degrees in counselor education, preferably from a CACREP-accredited program, or have related doctoral degrees and have been employed as full-time faculty member in a counselor education program for a minimum of one full academic year before July 1, 2013.
  • Applicants must demonstrate active research projects and engagement in the profession, the ability to teach effectively in traditional and online learning environments, strong interpersonal communication skills, a sense of humor, excellent administrative and leadership skills, a collaborative approach, the ability to mentor and advise students, and the entrepreneurial spirit to develop and support program development in areas appropriate to the College mission.
  • 3+ years experience in clinical practice. Licensed or eligible for license in the State of Arizona.
  • A minimum of 1 year teaching experience at the graduate college level required, with preference going to those with online or hybrid learning environments.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience with the capacity to lead or contribute to existing specializations, Clinical Mental Health, Addiction, Couple and Family, or School Counseling, and emphases areas of Social Justice or Somatic Therapy are preferred.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in a field of counseling that integrates social justice learning and serving diverse communities with an interest and capacity to further develop curriculum in this area is preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience with the CACREP self-study and accreditation process preferred.

Application review will begin immediately; positions open until filled.
