The Department of Health and Human Performance at Texas State University invites applications for the tenure-track position of Assistant Professor in Biomechanics. The Department presently has 51 fulltime faculty serving over 3,300 undergraduate and graduate students seeking degrees in athletic training, exercise and sports science, health education, and recreation administration. Our academic programs offer both bachelors and master degrees. The Department of Health and Human Performance has received approval to plan an interdisciplinary doctorate program in rehabilitation sciences which includes biomechanics.

The successful candidate will be a strong teacher and researcher. This is a full-time, tenure-track faculty position with a nine-month academic year appointment beginning Fall 2018. The successful candidate will: (1) be responsible for delivering quality instruction in graduate and undergraduate courses in biomechanics and exercise science, (2) pursue a focused area of research that results in peer reviewed publications and potential for external funding; (3) serve as an advisor to master’s degree students; and (4) serve on committees and participate in official activities at the department, college, and university levels.

Required Qualifications:

• Earned doctorate with a specialization in biomechanics prior to appointment date; and
• Demonstrable evidence of research and scholarship in biomechanics.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Interest and experience in clinical biomechanical research;
• Experience teaching biomechanics at the university level;
• Experience in grant writing and obtaining external funding for research;
• Experience with graduate education the ability to contribute to master’s programs and mentor graduate students;
• Research area that is congruent with existing lines of research within the Department of Health and Human Performance;
• Ability to integrate diversity and multicultural perspectives into teaching;
Commitment to working collaboratively with departmental faculty, staff, and external partners in research; and
• Certification in a rehabilitation-related allied health field.
