Provost and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs

Biddeford and Portland, ME

The University of New England (UNE) seeks a new Provost and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs to join this innovative, dynamic and entrepreneurial comprehensive private university.

With two campuses in Portland and Biddeford, Maine, an international campus, and robust on-line programs, UNE is one of the fastest growing private universities in the northeast. Driven by strong interest in its health sciences programs grounded in the liberal arts, UNE has experienced unprecedented growth over the last eight years. UNE is the leading provider of health care professionals in the state of Maine and has recognized strengths in osteopathic medicine; health sciences; biological, marine and environmental sciences; neurosciences; and areas of excellence in the liberal arts, including the first study abroad campus to be
established in Morocco by a U.S. university. At UNE, there is a palpable recognition of the value of creativity and holistic instruction to educate students in the 21st Century for their careers and life success.

The University enrolls approximately 2,582 degree-seeking undergraduates, 2,085 on-campus graduates, and 9,076 on-line students from around the world, and supports a faculty of 275. In July 2017 UNE welcomed a new President, James Herbert, Ph.D., who is working with faculty, staff, administration and the board to develop and implement strategies that will capitalize on the university’s strengths and opportunities. The new provost will have the opportunity to shape and expand academic programs, pursue innovative ideas and strategies, and continue to build UNE’s stature as a regional and national leader in multiple fields. More information can be found at www.une.edu.

UNE seeks a talented, visionary provost who can work collaboratively across the university to continue the University’s strong trajectory while bringing new ideas, an inclusive and creative approach to solving problems and an entrepreneurial spirit to the position. In addition, the provost should demonstrate the following:

• A record of academic and scholarly achievement that demonstrates a commitment to academic excellence

• Experience as a senior level administrator with demonstrated leadership skills necessary to manage the academic resources and advance the University’s mission and standing

• A record of success in collegial decisions, policies and management practices through a consultative and collaborative process with the University community

• Ability to create an environment responsive to all forms of diversity and equity

Inquiries, nominations and applications are invited. Review of applications will commence immediately and will continue until the position is filled. For fullest consideration, applicant materials should be received by November 27, 2017. Candidates should

provide a curriculum vitae, a letter of application that addresses the responsibilities and requirements described in the Leadership Profile and the names and contact information of five references. References will not be contacted without prior knowledge and approval of candidates. These materials should be sent electronically via e-mail to the University of New England’s consultants, Lucy Leske and Concetta M. Stewart, Ph.D., at UNEProvost@wittkieffer.com.
